That about sums it up how I feel about the 49ers playing in -37 degrees windchill. Not sure if that necessarily gives the Packers an advantage that's just brutally cold for anyone. Not sure if I've ever been somewhere that cold my whole life.

That almost seems inhumane to play in that weather but I'm all for it as long as it's not the Seahawks. I would be very upset if I was a player forced to do that.

The important part will be for whoever wins to avoid injuries! Playing in temps that low exposes you to lots more potential injuries. And one of them has to come back here the following week to what they know will be a physical game. I would think that both of them intend to come out of the gate fast and try to "ice" it in the first half to rest their starters for us. Those dudes are going to need chemical heater packs shoved into every orifice imaginable for this one!

When I ride my motorcycle I have the benefit of electric heated vest and grips. Its all about keeping your torso warm. If your core is toasty it will pump nice warm blood to your arms and legs and all is well. You start pumping cold blood to your extremities and its game over. I know they have decent battery heated clothing now but not sure if they use it in the NFL?

In Indy it was 2 degrees this morning with wind chill dropping it below 0. Thankfully all of my outdoor exposure consisted of walking from my parking spot to my office. Even THAT was miserable and somewhat numbing just for the five minute walk. I can't imagine how bad it will be to play football for 3.5 hours in conditions even colder than this.

That's right WilsonMVP. Saints win, they are the opponent. They lose, and we play the winner of the Niners/Packers game.

This is fantastic news. If SF had to go to Carolina the next week, the temperature change might cause some massive cramping. Even in Seattle, if it's 45-50, it could be too much of a physical swing.

Also, it's hilarious to me how much complaining there has been in the national media about the cold weather in NY, but no one bats an eye during a playoff ice bowl. *shrug*

It's the fan experience, brother.

The SB can be played anywhere (theoretically)... why have the fans endure what will likely be a very cold/miserable experience.

Personally, I am foregoing going to the Superbowl this year for next year... when it will be played in Arizona.

And I'm guessing that I'm not the only NFL fan that had made the same decision.

There is a dizzying satisfaction that two of our rivals will be playing in extraordinarily miserable conditions.

SF with their pompous 5-rings argument - coming from a warm weather state having to endure these awful temps. I'm betting that less than 10% of their roster has ever played in a game below zero F.
GB with their blatant disregard for what is wrongly called the "Fail Mary" and how cheated they felt - they have to play against one of the more bruising squads in the coldest game of the year (perhaps top 5 coldest in history). For comparison, stick your hand in a glass of ice water for 3 minutes then rap your knuckles with your warm hand. I bet it'll hurt!

It's just plain fun.

I hope that Harbaugh freezes like a statue and they leave him outside the stadium for dogs to pee on.
:th2thumbs:

Saw on TV this morning a wind chill of like -10 at kickoff and near -40 by the end of the game. Miserable, absolutely miserable.

Seeing icicles form on the noses of two of my most favorite teams just warms the heart.

I never fully bought into the cold weather issues (not snow/rain, just temps).

Call up Under Armor or The North Face and tell them you need something to run around in while braving frigid temps, I bet they hook you up with some pretty useful gear. Especially if you have plenty of coupons to throw in their direction. I'm willing to be you can find something worth while at a Cabela's or Dick Sports as well.

I'm not saying it doesn't get cold, but it's 2014 now...if you have the money it becomes a non-issue.

I guess people need to complain about something though, haha.

North Face has sucked ever since they were bought by Vanity Fair. Only their Summit and Flight series still have any quality to then. All of their best designers bailed and started up Mountain Hardwear. A merino wool base layer is where it's at though.
