You %$*&^%,

I was thinking this exact thing for 2 pages and 40 posts and get to the very last post and you posted exactly what I was going to.

So this will just have to do to get my post count up.

I think a younger QB survives in cold, what I think is Harbaugh is a great coach for plays, he will have the perfect plan for them, the GB defense is really bad, I think 49ers does have the upper hand in my opinion. Besides Rogers playing in cold after the injury will be risky with the hard hitting defense.

I hope that Harbaugh freezes like a statue and they leave him outside the stadium for dogs to pee on.

The 49ers still own the Packers, so I think they'll still be able to run the ball right down their throats and win.

Whether if the 49ers win or the Packers upset, both teams probably won't walk away from this game unscathed and injury-free in that temperature.

If Eagles win, one of those teams will have to travel to the Emerald City to play against a rested Seahawks team with Percy Harvin and #1 D in the NFL.

If the Saints win, one of those teams will have to travel to the Queen City to play against a rested Panthers team with # 2 D in the NFL.

If that happens to be SFO, they have traveled from SF to ARI to SF to GB to SF to CAR in three weeks riding an 8 game win streak. That's pretty taxing. If they beat Car and Seahawks win vs Saints. SF then has to back to SF to SEA in its 4th straight road game, riding a 9 game win streak, and try to muster the energy to with stand the 12s and beat a team they've lost to 71-16 the last two times in Seattle.

It's the usual, maybe especially in this weather: running the ball and stopping the run. Advantage, 49ers. SF's secondary is banged up, and we all know Rodgers is one of the best throwing.

But the Packers defense is terrible, and the 49ers are tougher than we give them credit for, even with these forecasted temps at hand.

In the end, I think SF comes back to Seattle - which I want anyway - and they prevail at Lambeau, 24-20.

You are welcome :snack:

I keep wondering when that geriatric defense of the 49ers will wear down and collapse. I hope they have to go to Carolina then come here for the NFCCG. That would be ELECTRIC! :th2thumbs:

To beat a team like the Packers with Rodgers 4 times in a row..at lambeau. ..In those conditions. That would give me hope we could keep up the Niners domination at home.

I'll go with the Packers in this one in a hard-fought game.
I agree Kaep will have some trouble passing the ball. I think GB does a much better job against Kaep's runs this time.
Ultimately, Aaron Rodgers leads one more scoring drive, the game winner, and it's Green Bay, 17-13.

The biggest wildcards, of course, include Vernon Davis, and SF defense creating turnovers/defensive scores, or Frank Gore busting a long run in the 4th quarter, or even Kaep breaking one. Those wildcards don't "Favre" the Pack. I think SF plays a manly game in the frozen tundra, for a bunch of California boys, they will play their hearts out. Harbaugh will adjust to the weather in the way that gives his players the best chance; he won't be stupid. There will be bench heaters, etc. in abundance. Still, weather=advantage Pack. Taking the Pack for the win, Rodgers rules.

49ers have won three straight against the Pack. Before that, the Pack won eight straight against the 49ers. Conclusion: the 49ers "own" the Packers. Quite the popular narrative but significantly overstated.

(With that said, I have the Niners winning this game just because they're the better team.)

I'm born and raised in Idaho and the winters are miserable out there. Living in Wisconsin for two winters now I must say the weather here is waaay more miserable. Its dang cold today and the cold front hasn't hit yet.

Good luck Collin, bring gloves!!

Where were you raised in Idaho?

Mostly Pocatello. Lived and worked in Boise and Idaho Falls before leading the state. IF had the worst weather because of the wind and cold..

This would be a valid point if the teams were more evenly matched. The Whiners have been averaging over 200yds rushing per game, and the Packers' run defense is at the bottom of the league. The Packers have a run game, but nothing close to what SF does, and SF has one of the top run defenses in the league.

A very slight weakness of SF is their secondary, which will be matched up against some great WRs and a great QB, but the weather won't be conducive to an air attack.

I really don't see where the Packers have many advantages, other than being more familiar with playing in the cold. Perhaps the Packers can find a way do get something going on the ground while the 9ers are still finding their footing and acclimating. Some fluke things sometimes happen with slipping and weird bounces of the ball sometimes too. If GB somehow finds a way to win, I suspect it will be because of some whacky things going on. Even if everything bounces their way , they most will pull it out by hang on for dear life as the SF gets rolling in the second half, once they get their adjustments and cleat sizes set.

The Packers had a 28-24 4th quarter lead @SF in week 1, so it's not like this is as much of a long shot as people might think. They contained SF's ground game very well (Gore and Papaki had 66 yards combined on 28 carries) and kept the big plays to a minimum. Their downfall was time of possession -- almost 20 minutes to 40 -- and forgetting to cover Boldin all day and allowing him to go for 200+ yards. Rodgers threw for 300+ and 3 TD's with an inconsequential INT near the end of the first half in which they got the ball back and scored anyway.

Now the forecast is that this could become the coldest football game played in NFL history.

I don't really care who wins, but I hope it goes double overtime. Hell, triple overtime. Coldest and longest game ever played would be just fine with me.

See, this is the reason for that "49ers own the Packers" narrative. Since Kaepernick has become the QB, the Packers have always seemed to be one step behind on defense. In last year's playoff game, the Packers were completely unprepared for the read option. Like, COMICALLY unprepared, as if they'd never seen an offense run that way before - even though several teams had been doing so all season. Then they spend all offseason preparing to stop the read option and the 49ers throw all over them. Watching the Packers try to defend against the 49ers is like watching a teenage driver on a slick road swerve, and then massively overcorrect... you just know the chances of him getting the vehicle going straight again and not off into a ditch is LOW.

I think they were so worried about getting embarrassed again that they forgot all about the passing game and their new weapon -- a physical, vet WR who can actually run routes. And now the Packers have a little ground game of their own finally with Eddie Lacy. That should shorten up some of their 2nd/3rd down conversions and help them extend drives, keeping the ball and the clock on their side a little more. Normally I'd say the Packers would probably win this one in a shootout, but with this crazy weather forecasted it's a complete toss-up for me.
