I also think -15 and -37 there is a big difference, breathing is harder as you take deeper breaths that cold hits your lungs and it can make your breaths shallower. The snot freezes as your nose runs before it leaves, you lick your lips and those that have beards and staches freeze when they get a drink very fast. If the wind is blowing there isn't enough clothing to keep the cold out if your not moving a lot, players with minimal outter wear will be miserable if they don't have the preperation. I would not be surprised if the 49ers don't do what the Seahawks did and rent or bring in the heated benches and heaters etc that are not required to be provided to help, then again Harbaugh may think the Man up mentality is the way to go.

I don't know about Wisconsin, but up here it's usually coldest about 10:00AM. In the first few hours of the morning it drops then starts back up with the Sun. At least that's how it is north of the Brooks Range. "In Prudhoe Bay, the wind doesn't blow, it sucks."

I'm born and raised in Idaho and the winters are miserable out there. Living in Wisconsin for two winters now I must say the weather here is waaay more miserable. Its dang cold today and the cold front hasn't hit yet.

Good luck Collin, bring gloves!!

Meh, the Whiners may not enjoy freezing their asses off, but they are well equipped to play in cold weather...more so than GB.

They don't call it the Frozen Tundra for nothing. I went on a business trip to Saskatchewan and spent time in Regina (rhyme it with a lady body part for correct pronunciation) with -37 at the actual temp and it is truly impossible weather. I'd say when you are anything below 0 Fahrenheit then you will have trouble doing things.

in a normal weather pattern (no front coming through, etc) its always coldest right around dawn/sunrise. and the temp usually falls with the sun.

kickoff is at 4:45 eastern, so 3:45 local? Today by comparison, the temp dropped from 10 to 8 degrees between 1:53 and 3:53, and as of 5:53 GB time, it was 3. using that basis (which is hardly scientific, but a general idea) if the high is 2 as forecasted by the NWS, it would be around 0 for kickoff and -5 towards the end of the game. different airmasses react differently obviously, the drier the air, the faster the temp will drop. for example, the humidity is about 50% over there right now, so not super dry. also, wind, cloud cover, snow cover, etc all affect temperature trends.

sorry guys, but weather is my main passion outside football. i tend to geek out, haha

i know it makes for a great storyline, but i highly doubt it will be that close to the forecast low temp that early in the afternoon unless a front is going through during the day and the temp falls all day (which is entirely possible seeing as its not supposed to be above -12 sunday night thru tuesday there)

I love this forecast. While I've had an aversion this week to a combination of Eagles/Niners win this weekend, I think this is a brutal and taxing enough game for the Packers and Niners to play in that to put themselves through that and then to have to turn around and play in Seattle six days later just makes for an incredibly difficult task to pull off. I'm actually tending toward wanting to root for the Eagles now on Saturday just because I feel confident that the Seahawks would feast on the leftovers from this frozen game.

I respectfully disagree, I think SF has a decent chance because GB's defense is so bad, but the weather might be the great equalizer. I see it being a close game that can go either way.

They keep moving that cold front forecast up so is entirely possible that they'll see minus degrees at kickoff. I'll be watching the game sitting next to my warm Alaskan woodstove even though the outside temp here will be a balmy high 20s.

Hope Kaepernick's tongue gets stuck to his bicep when he starts making out with himself.

First of all, LMFAO at "making out with himself". That is fantastic.

Second of all, I'm a lifelong Northwesterner and I know nothing about that kind of weather. I travel to Philly now and then and when it it gets in the teens there I feel as if I'm mere minutes away from death. I'd be scared crapless if our team was walking into that because it's just going to be silly. Either team's QB might hand off the ball and have their hand break off and shatter on the turf, you just don't know for sure who is going to deal with it worse (although I do agree that the defense and run game of the Niners *seems* much better equipped, how the hell can you catch a ball in that).

I mean I go snowboarding with my son up at Snoqualmie and even up there we haven't seen anything below 20 in 2 years. It's crazy how mild the weather is here (and in SF).

You might find this interesting then, i gave weather in Umiat, Alaska for nearly twenty years. :)

I agree. The cold can change a lot of things. Just staying hydrated can be difficult.

I actually think GB will win this game. Normally I would take SF in a heartbeat.

Wonder how well the heated field is going to hold up? There are those that think the system can unfreeze toes...and balls. I do not care how well the system works; There is no way to unfreeze -37 degree balls.
Maybe if they use hand warmers in their jock straps?

Maybe they can get a line of some of Josh Brown's "magic pants".

That football is going to be like a rock and Kap doesn't throw the touch pass yet, all his throws are rifles. So I expect some broken fingers and players ducking away from the "frozen missile" aimed at their bodies. :)
