Geno Decision Making

Let me tell you something Dot Net, this is not a good look! Geno is not a leader of men! He was recently arrested driving 96 MPH when drunk! And during the arrest instead of telling the police he was sorry he kept telling them they had small peepees! Imagine that! You could have killed someone Geno, be apologetic! Instead he disrespected the peepees of law enforcement! very sad and crude.

On top of that he had his career in New York ruined by his own team mates! They broke his jaw because he wouldn't pay a measly 600 dollars he owed! This is sad! He is not the guy!

Trust me, the locker room will not respect him!

Geno is good at driving drunk, not at driving the football! Thank god he didn't kill a member of our community while driving 96 MPH drunk! This is not a role model or a man of morals! Sad!

Was this guy not a leader of men?

Have you read Joe Namaths book and the crap he did while he played? All the way up to trying to kiss Suzy Kolber on the air.

Dude led a lot of men though...

Could go on and on, but I don't think it would make a difference.

Just say you don't like him and never will.

His teammates don't seem to have the same moral dilemma with him that you do. Maybe they should all get the axe?

Let's bring Tim Tebow in and give him a go. Even if he's complete garbage, by your account, we'll be better off because his teammates will see that he 'walks in the light'.

And BTW, isn't the purpose of getting drunk, being able to say dumb shit that you would never otherwise?

Not condoning him doing it or his dumbest behavior. It's not a good look - you're right.

And pee pees??? Really?

I'm just not a fan of a guy who endangers lives like that! And then makes fun of the officers peepees! Not cool.

Look in Geno's defense what he did is nothing compared to the rest of this League. Deshaun Watson got suspended half a game per rape. Aaron Donald is out assaulting people a football helmet in each hand! And yes Big Ben was disgusting too!

The difference between these guys and Geno is that these guys all got a break because they were very good football players. Geno is not. Most my evidence that he isn't a leader comes from the time that he nearly ended his career over his team mates breaking his jaw because he was too cheap to pay 600 dollars.

If it had ended there and nothing else happened I wouldn't even bring that up again. The past is the past. But the truth is just months ago he was driving around our community at 96 MPH while drunk. That's endangering lives! He didn't learn from the jaw breaking incident. He just got worse!

Of course like I said there is 0 accountability in the NFL so it wouldn't be fair for him to suspend him etc. I'm just saying is it really worth it to let a guy of this character lead our team when he isn't even good? I'll cheer for him but the 96 MPH drunk thing doesn't sit well with me. And yes making fun of their peepees afterwords is not a good look either!

You act like he grabbed women by their peepees, paid for sex from a porn star, was suspiciously close friends with a child predator, and then tried to run for president and be the leader of the free world.

Bud, there's zero accountability for a lot of folks, and hypocrisy abounds.

What he did was dumb. No doubt. What he did was unsafe, for sure. Chris Warren was in a car with Lamar Smith where drinking had occurred and ended up leaving a teammate paralyzed. It was tragic. Thankfully nothing like that happened here and am hoping the dude understands his error.

As to the story about the $600. There were two people upset that the account of the story was even printed, 4 years after the fact. Geno Smith and the guy that punched him.

Take that for what it's worth.

I dont know if he's mentally tough enough to succeed when the going gets rough. But if he doesn't, his moral compass won't be what failed him.

Not sure what this has to do with Donnie the Disgraceful but you are missing my point. I don't know if Geno is necessarily a bad guy and I'm not saying he did the worst thing in the world... but it's not exactly an endearing quality for a starting QB who is outside the top 30 in the league in every single important QB statistic. A lot of people were sure he was done here and would not be re-signed after that incident. Instead he is now the starting QB. Whatever I think it's all part of the plan. Not getting a QB shows that they want to lose.

If Geno was good it'd be more understandable why they would overlook that stuff. But considering how close the QB competition was marketed as, I just think you might as well go with the guy who wasn't just driving around 96 MPH drunk and being unapologetic about it.

You act like he murdered someone or did some heinous thing. I guarantee you that on a nightly basis, whether they are speeding or not, 30% of people who leave a bar after drinking and get in their car and drive home would qualify as too drunk to drive. I see it quite often. But only a fraction of a fraction get caught.

That act just doesn't seem to me the impeachable offense that you do. You could be right... just seems like a reach considering how much his teammates on offense have the guy's back.

Sometimes it's the fact that a guy has been through the ringer and almost did himself in with poor decision making that endears him to others. People like the redemption story. Geno is human. He's made some pretty stupid mistakes. However the 'punch' deal went, its still not a good look. And his Twitter fights are dumb as well. It's immaturity.

But will that play out on the field? Baker Myfield comes across as pretty immature dude. And he actually wasn't like by some teammates. But in the huddle and on the field, that character doesn't come through.

Will it for Geno. I sure as he'll hope not

As I said I don't think it's some unforgivable offense, but I do think it speaks to his character. Whatever, he will be the QB for as long as he can perform to Carroll's standard. I wouldn't be surprised if they both start games this year. I didn't act at all like he was a murderer, I already stated that multiple times. And yes people drive drunk often, there is no doubt. If it was a regular DUI I wouldn't really have much to say. But going 96 MPH is very serious, he very very easily could have killed someone. Seems to me like you are really downplaying the crime.

The only difference between Geno and Henry Ruggs is that Geno was lucky enough not to hit anyone and kill them. They were both going extremely drunk while driving. Do I think it's unforgivable? No. Do I think it's akin to murder? No. At the same time I think it's a very serious offense.

Even not drunk that can get you in trouble. The QB is supposed to be a good decision maker. That's what Pete preaches. Drunk driving is very bad decision making if you ask me. I will still cheer for the guy but the moral shortcomings are just the icing on the cake. He has not shown himself to be a starting caliber QB.

I also respect your opinion and positivity but please try to read when I say I think it's a serious crime but certainly not unforgivable. It speaks more to the culture of the NFL where it doesn't matter what you do, morals are nothing. At least he didn't sexually assault 25 women. The guy who did that only got 12 games. 0 accountability league.

Anyone looked at Geno's record will logically conclude that he is at best mediocre, and that's being polite. He only really played in 2013 and 2014 with the Jets, both were terrible, he was a turnover machine for sure. In 2013 he was 12TD/21INT, horrid, 2014 he was 13/13. Then he became a backup with very little meaningful stats.

To me, to call him not fit for starting is fit and correct. But somehow his game changed when he stepped in for Russ last season. When he enter the Rams Game, I honestly changed station, not interested in watching Geno WHO. I automatically dismissed him based on his past performances and meh preseason games.

BUT, to my surprise, Geno reinvented himself, he became that Peteball game manager. He was 5TD and 1 INT in 3.5 games last season. Every game was close, but no cigar, but he didn't cost the team games. This preseason is the same way. To my bigger surprise, PFF happened to agree with my eyes. He was rated the same as Russ for their 2011 season, and he was one of the highest rated QB this preseason.

Geno worked on his game and mental approach to the game. This is not easy, as he ought to be set in his ways. Just look how hard is for Lock to change his game. But Geno changed, how long can he keep it up? Only football God knows. But we are looking at a different Geno from his Jet days, I have no doubt about it. Will he be the second coming of Wilson? Hell no, Wilson was special. But in 2021, Geno entering the game stone cold, managed to up Wilson when both had clean pocket, passer ratings 131 for Geno, 111 for Russ. Of course, Geno's game wasn't close to Russ when under pressure. But look, they were both rated by PFF at 73.9, within a point or so from JimmyG. Looked like Wilson's floor may just be Geno's ceiling as shown in the QB comparison below, but hey, this is our gap year, and we may just have that perfect gap QB.

Geno vs Russ

Lots of words here that can be summed up more succinctly: Geno's a loser.

Geno clearly has been molded to Pete ball. The guy has hustled in the league as a backup for 8 years. He’s not the same QB as he was in his early 20s. Those early season stats are throwaways

I concur! Back to the topic, Geno's off field decision making are questionable, he didn't sound like someone I would name as perfect choice as son-in-law. His decision making on the field was terrible with the Jets, he really worked on that over the years holding a clipboard. Still a long way to go but one can notice improvements, he may never be elite, but you can't fault a guy from trying?

The way he acted when got arrested says a lot. Making excuses for Geno getting a DUI also says a lot.
You got your way Keas. Be careful what you wish for, because he is not going to make this a winning team. At all. And I don't think Lock would either.
