12s have spoken, 59% on dot net voted not to give Geno an extension which he wanted ( https://www.seahawks.net/threads/extend-geno-soon.199976/) . Most on dot net further preached for our genius head coach to have a few years to rebuild the team to his image and style, we don't need a veteran QB during a complete rebuild, do we. We further don't have much cap and draft capital for that complete rebuild.

Here: https://sportsnaut.com/cleveland-browns-news-2025-qb-geno-smith-daniel-jones/#google_vignette

WIN WIN WIN situation:
  1. Happy front office:
Trading Geno to Browns could yield us draft capital and some cap space, both desperately needed by our front office for the Macdonald rebuild.
  2. Happy 12s on .net:
12s on dot net will be happy for the opportunity to cheer a QB of the future, even two GBOTF if Howell is included.
  3. Happy Geno:
Geno will get his extension and play behind a 3rd ranked OL, although the #18th-ranked WR corp may not be so great.
Sam Howell, here we come!

Minnesota? I thing Geno would be an upgrade over Darnold. The Vikes look like another team that is close to being a top contender plus Geno would be closer to family, right?
They just used a top 10 pick on a QB.

Those rankings are projections from before the season btw. Not sure they mean much. Not really feeling the Niners as the #1 WR and TEs group in the league, for example. It also says we're worse at QB than the Bears and Browns.

NYJ would ironically be a possible trade destination for Geno if Aaron Rodgers retired and their team wasn't imploding.

People get way too horny over the idea of being terrible during a rebuild. Like it's a good thing or something.
I think it's a combination of people both not knowing that tanking doesn't actually work in the NFL like it does in the NBA (we went through this a lot last offseason so I won't repeat the numbers, but anyone can read my posts here and here if you would like to see them) and also wanting to punish the 'bums' who are losing right now.

I still want to see how this season plays out. If we are 8, 9, 10 win team--if we somehow make it to the playoffs--than I do believe we are actually only one or two pieces away from being a real contender next year.

If we end up a 5, 6 win team--than yeah, blow it up, trade Geno away. Heck, trade DK too. But it's not tanking at that point. We are already that bad and that's where the difference lies.

(This is why I don't agree with the 'let's see what Howell can do' calls right now. What Howell can or can't do is far less valuable for deciding what to do with this team's future than what the team can do right now. We can figure out what we really have with Howell in weeks 17 and 18 if it comes to that.)

Browns can't really pay Geno while they're stuck with the Watson contract. I think there are other teams that could trade for them if the Seahawks don't want to keep him, but news flash --

GENO SMITH IS THE SEAHAWK'S QUARTERBACK IN 2025.

I'm not going to attempt to convince you be happy about it, but barring major injury in the coming weeks, that's the reality.

All we need is to first change the CBA to extend the trade deadline posthumously.
