Was doing a little checking on the recent signings as far as their contract signings when they signed as rookie free agents.
I realize it doesn't mean a lot as far as their chance to make the team, but it does say something about how they were regarded coming out of college.
TE Cam Sutton did not receive a signing bonus on his rookie deal with Carolina last year, but he had $40,000 of his first year contract guaranteed. This would tell me he was considered a strong prospect. He was waived at the end of camp, and never even caught on to a practice squad, so clearly he didn't impress enough as a tweener WR/TE.
DT Walter Palmore also had $40,000 guaranteed money in 2019, but was cut by Houston and didn't sniff an NFL roster after that but did play in the XFL briefly before that shut down in 2020. He didn't show up anywhere else until he was signed to the Dallas PS in October of 2020. He earned a callup at the end of the season , but was cut in May and signed by Seattle shortly after.
CB Will Sunderland received a $7,000 signing bonus from the Packers last year, which isn't a huge amount but somewhere in the middle of those guys. Consider that a few of the UDFAs for Seattle this year received bonuses of $3,000 or less. He received an injury settlement at the end of camp from GB and eventually landed on the Indy PS where he stayed for the rest of the year. He re-signed with Indy after the season but was cut in May and signed here this week.
S Joshua Moon seems to have the least credentials coming into camp this year. He received no guarantees after being signed by Jacksonville in 2019 and hasn't been on any roster that I can tell since then. I can only imagine that he had an impressive workout to get another shot here.
