I was not a fan of the Milroe pick but it's not because he's not a stud athlete. I don't think he's anywhere near the passer or even runner that Lamar was in college. Like, that's a fun comp and all but NFL teams didn't think he could be a passer and he still went first round.

I think someone else in here mentioned Taysom Hill and I think that's a better comp as far as how he could be used. If Darnold gets eaten alive by our dying Oline, then bringing in packages with Milroe -- who has some ability to throw but is dangerous with his feet, I think we might have something interesting. Obviously we're hoping for Darnold to be able to be quick and our concepts to have his first/second read open, but there's no question that Milroe with a ball in is hand is not electric (sometimes) to watch.

I think Milroe has solid vision in an open field but his lack of confidence in the pocket -- wanting to maximize every play and leaving that pocket (specifically that 3rd and long), is something he needs to work on if he ever wants a chance at the starting QB job. Beause while it might work a few plays, all of a sudden you have single man coverage on the outside and a couple of LBs in the box, taking away the underneath, and Milroe rushes out of the pocket and gets taken down for a yard.

True, but if they are going to stack the box to eliminate Milroe as a running threat, any half-decent coordinator is just going to adjust his passing concepts to scheme receivers open.

Hell, even Grub would have done that if any defense we faced ever stacked the box. With our anemic rushing scheme, and Geno’s inexplicable allergy to taking the easy yards on the ground, teams didn’t have to stack the box on us, which was a real problem.

Milroe will play the Taysom Hill role this year, and we'll get a sniff of whether he's capable of being a starting QB. I liked what I saw in his first outing, super twitchy, and while he wasn't perfect throwing the ball, he brought something to the O that's been missing since Russ was a pup.

Milroe: 2025 Seattle Seahawks week one starting QB

That would seriously require a major injury to probably both Lock and Darnold. This isn't 2012. Darnold has far more experience as a starter than Matt Flynn. Drew Lock and and TJack are likely equivalent players (ie.e career backups) and Wilson was far more polished than Milroe at this stage.

Milroe needs some work and some time. Let's give it to him. Play some preseason games, work with the coaches. Then see how Darnold fares as starter here. If he recreates last seasons numbers then we can give Milroe more time. If Darnold flops, we can have a competition next summer.

Milroe is more gifted than Wilson, taller (6'2" vs 5'10"), faster (4.37 vs 4.55), much stronger arm (ball velocity 70+ mph vs 55mph).
I loved Milroes press conference just recently. Everything he saids is not "I" oriented, it's about "We" "Team" or "Together", love hearing him talk. He sounds confident, intelligent and recognizes he's made mistakes and take accountability and states a desire to get better. Everything he saids just flows with positivity. I have nothing against our current Darnold, but leadership just resonates with Milroe. No chip on his shoulder. Just an all around team and good hearted player.

He had some nice throws last night. It was nice to see his running skills, but he may default on that too easily. At least one 3rd down he tried to run when he had a receiver open at the down line. He was playing with 3's and 4's, so that factors into the eval as well.
He also had a huge chance to run for a first and he threw an incomplete, so he is struggling to make the right reads, but that can be worked out, AND it was his first game. Kid could be great but he had to dedicate himself. I will say he moves like a damn cheetah

Me3 even posted to him "You're going to be a star".
Just like you and some of the posters in here think,
I will wait until he's had a couple years and go by what
see.
I do like that he's taller and faster but there is a bit more
that needs to be shown between the ears yet.

And that's what gives me hope, you could tell he wanted to run (gut instinct) but coaching was in his head and he tried too hard to make the correct read that was no longer there. Did that make sense? I guarantee if a coach was in his helmet it would have been ok ok ok, sh*t run, run, run DOH!!!! we will get them next time.

Wilson also wasn’t anything special until his sr year at Wisconsin. NC State thought so much of him, they told him to walk if he played baseball.

The guy he is most compared to, Jalen Hurts, was also shown the door by Bama, before living up to expectations at OU. I’d bet if Milroe transferred to a school, with a real offense, he would have also had a really good at year, and been a top 10-15 pick. You give him to Dillingham, Day, Kelly, Sark or Stein. And he would throw for 3800 yards, 35-40 tds, 700+ rushing and probably finish in the top 2 of the Heisman. Sec and NFL teams exposed Debore/Grubb offense. And Milroe payed the price.

That’s not an accurate reflection. I can’t believe I’m supporting Me3, but I’m not a fan of misrepresented facts.

He was named 1st team All ACC QB his frosh year, winning the job and not looking back. He graduated in 3 years and was contemplating a career in baseball when he left…keeping NC State in suspense.

They moved on when they were faced with limited time left to ensure the team was ready.

Typical Me3…but it was not b/c of lack of performance at NC State.

I don't know how you can't be excited about Milroe. He obviously has some work to do but you saw his special traits with his running ability and he appears to be further along with his passing then I thought he would be. He could be a unicorn. Could he never realize his potential? For sure. But he could also be a bigger Lamar. If he never makes it I still think he was a great pick because the process was right to jump on him at that spot.

I'm cautious but super excited about what we saw from him in his first stint.

Wilson was a monster even before Wisconsin.

Physical attributes like these are a plus, but being better with the muscle between the ears is far more important.
Everyone knows that Milroe won the William Campbell trophy last year, right? It's the "Academic Heisman" for the top student in NCAA football.

I'm not sure why people here are doubting Milroe's intelligence. Every time he speaks, you can see how smart he is. And he was regarded as the smartest of the QB prospects this year.

The mental aptitude for the position is what i'm talking about, not the ability to split an atom. Some people are more inclined for the position than others. Brady & Montana weren't physically dominant, but had the mentality for it.

Beginning possibly as soon as 2027, Milroe will almost certainly get Seahawks to the playoffs on a perennial basis or nearly so. Until then, we know next-to-nothing as to his potential to get the team all the way to the SB, but I'm now at the point where I can say it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but that's not illegal, so I said what I said.
