I mean on every level of a football play that was terrible. Not just Milroe. The call in that moment was absurd. Did you put Milroe out there cause you thought he was gonna make a play? Or maybe cause he needed a little game time for his development? Right then? While Darnold was just starting to dice bucs? I mean poor timing. And obviously the blocking, execution, decision making everything about the play was wrong.
That loss of possession directly cost points and led to the Bucs scoring, swinging the momentum of the game just when we were starting to roll.
Terrible decision

Think they can shelve the Milroe package for the rest of the season. He just doesn't look natural nor dynamic out there. His ball security is atrocious. I was fooled by some of those Bama highlights.

Basically a 10-point swing off that play call alone.

I had no real issue with the call itself. It’s not what I would have done, but whatever. I was upset to see them bring in Milroe though. Darnold could have run the same play with a higher likelihood of success. There’s a reason the number one gets most of the practice snaps and we saw that on Sunday.

Putting Milroe in for a play was akin to blurting out during a game of Uno "Oh hey I have a wild card, I'm going to play it my next turn!" Bucs D surely had him in their bulls eye.

I don't have a problem with the play call at all. It wasn't a trick or gadget play. It was a simple run-or-pitch option that required a very easy toss, like throwing a pillow to the other side of the couch, to a player that was just a few feet away from him. Mllroe blew it. Plain and simple.

It was very ironic as just a week or so earlier, I was calling for us to start using Milroe in short yardage situations. Our good friend @pmedic920 was kind enough to call to my attention to this brilliant idea of mine shortly after the fumble. Be careful what you wish for: You might get it.

I had assumed the debut of the Milroe show would come against the Falcons or Carolina and even then only when we were already leading by three scores. Or losing.

To even be in this game, Milroe could NOT play the inactive emergency third quarterback. Which means Drew was inactive. Which would be fine except that Jalen clearly could not run game 3 of preseason. Which is why Drew is listed higher on the depth chart.

Best case scenario for Milroe is that he earns QB2 coming out of next season with the qb3 being Lock.

How often does cute work? Rarely. Pathetic play call.
Cute? It wasn't a double reverse, flea flicker, hook and ladder, etc that one normally thinks of as "cute." It was a simple quarterback keeper, Milroe running laterally out of the shotgun with K9 running parallel and to his left with an option for Milroe to either keep it or pitch it to K9. He didn't even fake a handoff or take a snap from center. He just started running to his left. He screwed up.

Except for the decision to have Milroe run it, which I agree looks really bad in retrospect, I can't see any particular difficulty running a play like that.

I don't think they'll keep 3 next year. I think that's part of the reason they keep trying to use Milroe. He's already taking up a roster spot that they would normally use on another position, and they are trying to justify it by running a play or two with him.
The coaching staff has to know this is stupid by now, and to stop doing it. Just let Darnold take every snap like a normal starting QB, and let Milroe learn in practice and film study.

I have to include Milroe as an element of the play call but I get you guys. It was just an option play.

P.S. it was "cute" in the sense that they brought in the rookie 3rd string QB to run the play. If the play isn't something Darnold can run then scrap it from the playbook. How many teams bring in their 3rd string rookie QB because the team wants to run a play that they don't think is suited for their starting QB??? The whole thing is so incredibly stupid that we deserved to lose the game because of it. It was that dumb. It's honestly so dumb that it's the kind of thing that justifiably gets coaches fired at the end of the season if they don't knock it off.

Call if whatever the hell you want. I call it being cute, when it's not needed. Is there anything you won't argue or analyze 🤣🤣🤣🤣

At the MINIMUM, it was a 10 point swing. We scored 5 straight TDs, so I think it was a 14 point swing. No reason to believe we were not gonna score there. Don't care what you call it, it was a stupid play call. And there was no reason for it.

Maybe they could've just brought Milford out as a decoy. Obviously it wouldn't work now.
