There are all sorts of obvious benefits to securing the top seed in your conference as the Seahawks did with last weekend's victory over St. Louis: Getting a week off, getting to play all your games in the comforts of your own stadium and, in the Seahawks' case, in front of the best, most raucous fans in the NFL that create an immense home field advantage.

But there's a new benefit to securing that top seed that's emerging and is going to make San Francisco feel real sorry they came up a game short (provided they can feel anything at all...)

Wonder how well the heated field is going to hold up? There are those that think the system can unfreeze toes...and balls. I do not care how well the system works; There is no way to unfreeze -37 degree balls.

I put a gallon jug of water (no name brand) and it froze a few weeks ago. I put some beers in a cooler in the house and they got a bit warm. So I took that jug of ice and put it in my cooler. took another jug and put it outside..Took 2 days to freeze solid. I have currently 2 30 packs of blue beers outside. I think they are blue because they are freeeking cold. and I am in idaho... Had Packer weather a few weeks ago. High was about 15F. I get what they are feeling. I am just happy I had fire wood and a wood stove. Go HAWKS.

Packers are rated low in DVOA and barely beat the middling Bears. SF should have a fighting chance at the very least.

Oh how sweet it would be for the Packers to somehow get up 10+ points and force the Niners to throw the ball.

The one game where the lack of a sellout is forgivable. That sounds absolutely miserable

Lol!! :th2thumbs: No offense, sir, but the difference between 15F & say, zero degrees is immeasurable. Just as there is a very severe difference between say, 95 and 110 degrees. I am typing this from a place where it is currently in the negative single digits and 15degrees is comparatively balmy.

The actual high depending on where you are at was only 10 here in Boise and the low was -5. Boise is one of the lower elevations though so there are quite a few places around here that don't get above 0 sometimes.

I am not in Boise. I live in Minnesota. Couple of hours from Green Bay.

Temperature -14, wind chill -37 which means if you are naked, the wind will rip the heat from you body as if it were -37.

Wind Chill means nothing if you're dressed, but football players have a lot of exposed skin so they will probably feel it.

Living in Alaska though it is kind of annoying when people equate wind chill with the actual temperature. It's a huge difference. I've been at -65 when Number 1 fuel gels, Blue Arctic Ortac hose shatters like dry spaghetti and electric motors have to be heated up for them to turn.

We regularly see -37, when your tires are square for the first few miles and the interior is just starting to warm up by the time you get to work and it's a big difference compared to -14, which can seem downright balmy in comparison.

Having said all that, I wouldn't for the life of me want to play on that field as there are probably spots where it will be like cement. I still remember John Carlson getting a concussion in the playoff game in Chicago, a game we might otherwise have won if not for injuries from the cold.

I wonder how that aging SF defense will hold up in those temperatures? I know when your body core starts to drop you can get really depressed and would give up anything to be inside where it's warm, even give up the game.

Yea, I was wondering at =15, how much easier is it for bones to break and tendons/ligaments to rupture ? I know the compression clothing technology is amazing now, but I'd imagine that fingers would be a bit easier to break in that kind of cold (not that I'm hoping for injuries...SF stands a better chance of getting injured up here or at Carolina....GB isn't known as a physical team).

On a side note, that looked like some bad azzed tailgating in that picture.

Now all we need is someone to Photoshop a Hungry Man Dinner frozen with the 49ers as the Entree.

I also read where the Packers are moving their practices outside the rest of the week to acclement to throwing and catching in the weather. You can't pump in Liquid Nitrogen to a facility yet in California yet as far as I know.

That's overall DVOA. When you just take the adjusted DVOA with Rogers in it only, you find that the DVOA of the Packers is about +10% or so which is still less than most of the other NFC Playoff teams, but competative.

well the weather sites ive seen arent calling for -14, NWS is calling for a high of 2, but by kickoff the temp will have no doubt dropped. my guess is just a couple below 0. the overnight low is only projected to be around -18. well see as it gets closer.
