Why Isn't Russ Playing?

Today I saw Mahomes play two series to gell with his receivers. Josh Allen, masterfully mic dropped a series.

Russell? Nope. New team, new coaches, new scheme, new players...

I guess Russ thinks he's above playing a preseason game even when it behooves him to get some live game reps with his new squad.

You would think given the variables you listed that he would want to get into a routine with his team. However I read an article saying that Denver's GM doesn't want to play starters before the season because of injury risk etc.

Last year, Vic Fangio played his starters in all 3 Broncos preseason games. This year, Nathaniel Hackett is resisting playing top guys.

Russ is cross platform mega media star, may be Mahomes and Allen aren't in the same league as Russ?

The Colts did the same with Matt Ryan, and a number of other vet QBs have been doing that too (Rodgers, Stafford, Goff, Cousins, Tannehill). No Dak or Herbert playing in this Cowboys-Chargers game going on right now. It's probably just based on the philosophy of the individual teams.

Russ has had all of Denver wrapped around his finger since, “Broncos Country, Let’s Ride”.

If I am a Broncos fan I would be pretty dubious about Russ not taking ANY snaps in preseason, period.

He exchanged jerseys with Allen after the game. I’ve got to think it was his idea. Not sure what Allen would want with a preseason jersey that hasn’t seen a snap.

Russ isn't playing because Denver's favorite "Little Pony" is still in the barn getting his massive ego brushed and curried.

Russ isn't running a new offense and doesn't need to familiarize himself with how his new receivers run routes...

Because he plays one style of offense - his.

And his wr's likely won't get the ball running their routes as much as they will when the play breaks down and it's all about the scramble drill. A fly and a post ... there isn't much variability there between players.

He can do that anywhere and on any team at any time. Change the jerseys, change the coordinators, change the coach, change the receivers. Russ will play Russ-ball.

He doesn't need the practice.

Russ is not lowering his star status to the likes of Mahomes, those QBs like Mahomes need preseason games, our Russ? He did all he need to do with offense skill players at his San Deigo mansion; he also didn't need time with OL as he will be running circles so really doesn't matter.

Aaron Rodgers has not had time either.

Mahomes is under contract through 2031. Russ has one year left and is waiting on a HUGE payday - no good reason he would put his body on the line in a meaningless practice game.
