Should Manning lose the passing yardage record?

Since there was a mistake on the lateral that was awarded as a forward pass that gave him the record should he still have the record?

If that play is a lateral Manning didn’t break Drew Brees’ single-season passing yardage record. He would have 5,470 yards, not 5,477, and Brees would still have the mark with the 5,476 yards he threw for in 2011.

I think that they should not change how the yardage is recorded just to give Manning the record. Now we all know that he could of come out in the 2nd half and got it , but he didn't.

I think if you are gonna take those 7 yards away from him which was awarded on the field and gave the Broncos the false impression that he had the record then you need to go back through all of Brees throws and make sure they were forward.

The big thing for me is that if that was ruled a lateral on the field and he was still needing to get the record he would have attempted a couple more throws and got the 7 yards he needed. They only stopped because they thought they had the record.

I'm fine with it merely because there was still half a game left, he'd have gotten it regardless if they hadn't counted it right then and there.

He earned it. *shrug*

It won't matter when Wilson tosses for 6000 yards next season and Lynch rushes for 2500

I'd like to see them take it away because I hate the Bronco's.

It sucks that Peyton went to the Donkeys. I've loved Peyton for years, and now he's on one of the few teams in the NFL I don't like. Sigh.

Being that I'm in Colts country and saw PM probaly as much as someone can..I have to say He could've broken every single passing record there is while with the Colts but every year they took 1.5/2 and 1 time 3 games off before the playoffs ..The guy is not this A hole you think..He's on a different team that had to play all their games and has all these great wrs-I mean gee if he can't set records with them-then something would be wrong..He didn't put that team together and also he's 38 yrs old now..Has a chip on shoulder because there was some after last year saying he couldn't put up the numbers he once did..I admit I was one of them(how stupid)I mean he had 4 neck surgeries came back and plays with 2 sprained ankles @same time..He's 2nd to Favre as toughest qb in my mind ...He's a top 3 of all time..His only weakness seems to be big games (playoffs) or cold weather ..His feet will tell you which one but he has won a SB so..Give the guy his record some will be broken again anyway as soft as the NFL is now and will be even more later(flag football)..

It wont last long anyway. These passing records dont mean much anymore.

I dunno, man. You're right that the NFL has becoming a pass-happy league, but to reach 5,700+ this year, Peyton was averaging 342 a game. That's unreal. It's gonna take a real gunslinger like Stafford or Rodgers type QB to ever get close to Peyton's and Brees' record...which will probably have to include multiple 400+ yard games like Peyton did this year.

I haven't seen the play in question, but an article I read about it says that if you look at where Manning was standing on the field using the markers relative to where his receiver was he was deeper. The NFL seems to agree with that. Plus he would have broken it anyways if he had played the full game. It is like people saying his 50th TD wasn't actually a TD (which I agree with), but he made that argument completely moot by throwing a few more. With 2 quarters left in the game he could have easily added a whole lot more then 1 yard to the record.

No way will there be flag football....flags are dangerous. 2-hand touch and possibly 2-hand pointing maybe. Have to be within 3 yards of the offensive person tho. LOL :stirthepot: :stirthepot:

How does it feel to hold a record with an " * " next to it? Can't feel all that great!

From what I know (thich may not be much ; ), most know that total yards and stats can be adjusted after the game. I agree he could of easily gotten the yards in the second half, but you never know. He could thrown and pass for negitive yards and got hurt, we do not know. That said, I think it is a slippery slope when you fudge stats just because.

the NFL alters stats after games all the time.. so yes, they should change it if it was indeed a lateral

Adjust the stats, just because it's Peyton it should'nt mean anything special, if it was Ryan Fitzpatrick everyone would be screaming for it to be adjusted.

Did Strahan really sack Favre for the record or did Favre just go down?

Did RW actually throw that TD to Tate against GB making him tie the record for rookie qb's?

Point being - you call it on the field the best you can and that is what you walk away with

Exception being tripple-doubles in the NBA where guys have missed layups on purpose to get their own rebounds
