Just 'cause he's Peyton Manning doesn't mean he gets a pass on the rules. It was a lateral, not a forward pass. You take it away, end of story. If they're gonna start changing stats and records because you happen to be a future hall of famer, then maybe we need to start from the beginning and start changing stats for every other player in NFL History that were not properly recorded (like taking that TD away from Vinnie Testeverde!). BS! I like Peyton, but I also hate special considerations made for certain players just because they were great. NO player is above the rules! Hey, if we're gonna do that, let's start with counting up Michael Jordan's traveling non-calls...

Did Strahan really sack Favre for the record or did Favre just go down?

Did RW actually throw that TD to Tate against GB making him tie the record for rookie qb's?

Point being - you call it on the field the best you can and that is what you walk away with

Exception being tripple-doubles in the NBA where guys have missed layups on purpose to get their own rebounds

There is a difference on those plays though. The Favre sack is a sack whether he allowed or not. The Tate TD was a TD, confirmed by the officials.

With the pass that is a lateral it was confirmed that it was a lateral and yet they made a conscious decision to not adjust the stat for Manning to maintain the record so there is a big difference. We all know if he came back into the game he most likely would of got the record. But he did not come back in and Brees should still have the record.

If it was called a forward pass on the field then there is no difference
