Hello Team,

We know Carson is the starter , Carlos Hyde a legitimate NFL back coming off his best year. Homer looked good in a small sample sized during the 2019 season. Deejay Dallas continues to receive positive reviews. Where does this leave Penny. Is trading him just to free up his salary space possible? Cutting him frees up just $580,000.00 not much in salary cap terms.

While he's still healing from injury/surgery, what options does the team really have? What teams would be anxious to trade for him at this point?

We’d be lucky to get a 5th rounder for him. Better just to sit tight and hope he rebounds well from the injury.

We've literally gone through 5 starting running backs in a season before. Don't rule out us keeping everyone. Expect one to have the sort of injury that lets them come back later in the year.

It's also not uncommon for a promising rookie to have a season-ending injury in pre-season when we have a glut of people at a position.

I feel like the light switch was flipping on for him and then he got injured. Sucks. Hopefully he comes back strong once he's fully rehabbed.

He's on PUP, right? Will most likely leave him there and push that decision off to week 6 of the season.

No need to make a move now. It's not easy to cut an injured player and his trade value is rock bottom right now.

LIke the guy above said, we've gone through a lot of RBs lately. Having Rashad as a backup position going into the season in a good thing.

You keep him, there are only disadvantages to letting him go. You don't save much money, and you lose at the very least a potential change of pace back.

Lil harsh. He was starting to break out. It was definitely a rollercoaster of expectations, disappointment, and the excitement. But, he was starting to show out.

He's young and could come back from this. Would love to see it.

I expect he doesn't see the field this season, but comes back next season fully healthy.

Penny is going to surprise a lot of people .. especially some on this site .. when he's healthy he will be coming in fresh .. He has the breakaway speed that we all wish Carson had ... remember the last few games of 2019? The combo of Carson then Penny was catching teams off guard with Carson up the middle and Penny down the sidelines .. the great shame of 2019 was that BOTH of them got hurt before the playoffs .. re imagine that game against the Packers if we could have run the ball like we usually do .. Personally .. I'm thinking we WIN that game .. and .. if that had happened .. ALL BETS ARE OFF thinking the 49ers automatically go to the Super Bowl .. We are closer than you think .. that's why the Jamal Adams trade was made .. start linking together all the tangled webs .. PC/JS already have the puzzle solved .. we just need to put ourselves in the right position at playoff time ..

Totally agree. The Minnesota MNF game was when it all clicked. Our rush game was basically unstoppable that game.

Penny is great on outside runs, toss sweeps, that sort of thing. He will never be a great push the pile type of guy. Despite him weighing close to Carson, they are just different. Which, isn't bad. They just need to use him correctly. Wish they'd run a two back set so you don't know what type of run is coming, but there's probably a reason they don't.

Hyde doesn't really scare me much either in terms of Penny's development or play time. Hyde had his best year mostly on volume. He's solid. If I'm Penny I'm thinking more about DJ Dallas.

There’s also no guarantee that we sign Carson to a new contract. No reason to dump Penny just yet.

If he can shake the injuries there is a star in him. If not, meh...Chris Carson is good....but the Seahawks are used to great running backs.

He doesn't have to be either good or consistent.

He just has to be good when Carson isn't or cannot be (injured, resting, etc.)

We don't need him to be a star. We need him to contribute.

He is dangerous as a receiver. He can hit those homerun runs that break a team's back. He has the speed to take it to the house or complement Carson's power.

We'd be a more dangerous playoff team with him on the roster.

Honestly, with all these guys reinjuring themselves though - I'd rather they use Penny or Dissly sparingly.

It is not worth it to reinjure someone in a season where it feels like guys are more at risk for this. Move them forward slowly. Better to lose a game or 2 without them now, but have your weapons in the playoffs vs. win those games now while losing them for the playoffs.

Penny will be our starting RB next year. Carson will sign elsewhere for more money than we are willing to part with. Penny, DJ Dallas will be the 1-2 punch and We will bring in a bruiser for the tough yards.

By mid season, when Penny is ready to come back, he will be needed because Carson and Hyde both have signficant injury histories.

I'm not sold on Penny being our full time starter. Penny had a few good games, but for the majority of his career he's looked lost on anything else other than runs to the outside. Penny also has a significant injury history in his limited play time as well as issues with staying motivated. I might be inclined to say that he's been even more injury prone thus far than Carson when you consider the number of snaps played. Penny has talent, but he has yet to be able to put all of it together for more than short durations. The Seahawks were even eying Jonathan Taylor this year, I believe Carroll even said if Brooks wasn't around Taylor would have been the pick, I suspect they have the same view on Penny, they need to see more consistency.

I think what will ultimately happen is Carson will be resigned and we'll add another young RB in the fold to compete with Penny. I don't think Carson will cost very much in the free agency due to his injury history, and quite frankly the NFL has really slept on him. Penny may end up being the starter but he's really going to have to prove to Carroll that he deserves that role. He's not going to be just handed that spot.
