I would say his success is tied to the Line, teams have to fear and respect your ability to execute passing or running consistently to open up the other side of the offense to be versatile and less predictable. We have not done that when we actually wanted to with any real game to game ability. Imposing your will in one aspect is where you get your reputation.

These last 5 games are make or break for him. After those games I think we'll have a better picture of if he gets a second season.

I personally don't think Grubb gets fired. I think if he leaves it will be his decision to step away. He is probably thinking that he should have stayed in the college game. But I also don't think Mike wants to be hiring a new coordinator this offseason. Also if we do end up moving on, it should be a NFL headcoach who was a coordinator before.

I guess if I’m being honest this is embarrassing, it’s a new coaching staff and Grubb, maybe second to McDonald, is adept to adapt. Where did the fans go? Why is a board calling for a damn good innovative oc to be somewhere else after 75% of his first season, wtf?

Are you guys watching the same team I am? Week in and week out our offense plays better in the 2nd half.

Does anyone here remember Schottenheimer? Waldron? We'd come out with a game plan and if it didn't work -- well it was going to be a looong afternoon.

This season's offense is middle of the pack (22.7 pts/game); but it's also had a revolving door at RG/RT, Geno hasn't thrown this many picks (12) since 2014, and it's the first year playing a new offense.

What are your expectations? Ben Johnson? Johnson was in internal hire that had a year with Goff, 3 years in the offense, and inherited an entire staff before he was promoted. Grubb got to bring one guy with him and had to start from scratch.

I think this offense is on the right track. The HC's priority was to fix the defense first, and that has been done. The line situation WILL be addressed in the offseason and I'm really looking forward to seeing this offense in year 2.

My keys the rest of the season are to see the interceptions stop (familiarity should help that down the stretch), see Walker start hitting the hole (zone runs are one-cut), and (hopefully) see some better production on the OL.

The future looks bright guys. Don't waste your days looking for things to complain about.

Someone just learned the word retained and wanted to use it. This thread is dumb.

Grub can't excute for the players, he might think of executing them though

If Coach Mike is good with him, good enough for me. Players still need to execute the plays. I can see both sides of it.

His play calling in many of the games has been perplexing to say the least. Third and fourth down from the half yard line is football 101 that you do a quarterback sneak. Half yard line! Instead, they throw the ball, TWICE! It’s play calls like that and others throughout the season that really make me unsure whether this guy is made for the NFL. If they lost last week and some of these other close games where his calls were mind-boggling, many on this board would be singing a different tune about him.

That’s why this threat is happening, and there are plenty that say based on the poll that he will be fired or should be fired.

Yeah, I own my own frustration I'll chill out sorry, I don't understand and that's on me, I don't get it but taking a step back and enjoying the season, sorry. I would see it is a huge mistake, we have solidified a staff and team and are building it, nothing in my opinion warrants the discussion, that's on me.

I'd take Schottenheimer over any of the coordinators that proceeded him. He had the most cohesive offense here and he wasn't as ridged as you're suggesting. Sometimes he completely chimped out and called a game like Dallas, but he was clearly the best coordinator we had in the Carroll era by far.

He isn't the best OC in the NFL, but he's a guy that can get the job done. He stayed on top of NFL trends and he executed them solidly. He's not Ben Johnson but he's a solid coach all around. He seems to also have a way with QB's. Under Schottenheimer, Wilson made a lot of improvements as a pocket passer. Brees also credits Schottenheimer for taking the next step as QB.

I remember going on a tirade about what a horrible hire Schottenheimer would be. He turned out to be a solid.

Until the O Line improves drastically, gonna' be hard for just about any OC. But I'm down for a change next year.
That's kind of the OCs job. He needs to make things happen with what he has. You could argue that there are OCs in the league right now who are doing more with less.

Last off-season, the obvious place we needed real improvement was the defense. That was the consensus for just about everybody.

So, we brought in a defensive minded head coach and basically a whole new coaching staff on both sides of the ball. We overhauled many key defensive personnel on the field, a process that extended well into the season, but that has reaped big rewards so far. Defense is looking good here at the back end of the season.

So, what were we expecting from the offense? I seem to remember that we weren't expecting a lot of improvement, especially given the total rebuild of the offensive staff. Most of the on-field offensive personnel, however, remains the same with the exceptions of a few rooks from the '24 draft and some pickups to handle normal attrition. Results so far are that we're doing statistically about the same as last season. Our W/L record is arguably a notch better than last year. That remains to be seen as the final quarter of the season plays out, but so far so good.

It is really hard to rebuild the entire team in one offseason, really hard. For '24, the front office concentrated their efforts on the D and it has seemed to pay off. Aside from the new coaching staff they largely stood pat on offense and have more or less done about as well as they have lately with some warts and wrinkles along the way.

The TL/DR version of what I'm getting at is that I think you have to stick with the existing OC/staff for one more year and let them see what their ideas of what to do to improve them with an off-season focused more on them are. That's why I voted retain.

Look at it from Coach/GM perspective.

They believe this IS a playoff team and contender (experience be damned). Now, is the OC operating at THAT level? From my couch...probably not. "Sometimes good enough" doesn't read like someone that is getting it done.

Being an NFL play caller is not a learn as you go/developmental job. This is big boy stuff, and the results are what matters.

I really hope I am wrong, but I am quite concerned that Grubb and Huff may have been elevated to a level of football far beyond their capabilities. Not everyone is cut out for the big leagues.

Most concerning is some of the stuff that should be rudimentary - running your playaction from under centre when you don't run from under centre (opposing Lbers haven't been buying it all season); short yardage play calling; personnel groupings tipping play calls. Recent successful playcallers from the college ranks such as Kingsbury, Monken and Brady all at least had some NFL experience, be it playing or coaching, in their background and understood what it takes in the league.

Is Grubb the one responsible for coaching the O LINE? IF not, were I him I would be looking for some help at that position AND the front office should be asking who is responsible for assembling the O Line roster. I do not think what has transpired offensively is all Grubbs fault and I do not believe he had any say regarding the current makeup of O Line roster. Whether or not he is having an impact coaching the O Line is something I do not know.
