I know many of us are just perplexed with a lot of the playcalling on the offense this year. Last weekend‘s game and having the ball at the half yard line and throwing it was just beyond frustrating. With this said, I just don’t understand how an NFL offensive coordinator doesn’t know some of the basic play calls in certain situations. It’s obvious he’s learning on the job, but I gotta believe some of these players are not too happy.

So what say you? Does Grubb make it through the off-season?

He's coaching for his job. Hopefully that sense of urgency brings out the best in him.

As of now, no I'm not retaining him. No idea what those in charge are thinking though.

I think he makes it another season. Whether right or wrong, this can be chalked up as a growing season with the new coaching staff. Unless he does something Eberflus-ish in the last five games (and, personally, as frustrating as it was, I am not counting those nine plays on the goal line as Eberflus-ish), I don't see them making a change.

Not really up to us. Then again, we've seen how Coach Mike is with results. If you're not cutting it, he'll send you packing.
I'm officially off the Grubb bandwagon; I hope they move on next year. Unless I see a drastic improvement.

He probably deserves a full season. It would be nice if we could bring on a senior advisor for him (ala Frazier for Macdonald)

He would deserve another season if he actually shows growth. I dont feel we are getting better as the season progresses. Dont know why we'd waste another season on the chamce he gets better.

The roster deserves someone who knows what they are doing, not someone who is figuring things out.

By a few metrics he's done better than people are giving him credit for. Their red zone numbers are better than last year I think? The offense has slid a little as of late but I think a lot of that is execution. The line has played better yet the offense has stalled. I know some will get mad but Geno being indecisive has killed multiple drives, he flat out needs to be better and can be better. Walker has left a ton of yards on the table by being indecisive himself.

Grubb needs to get better too. His fade to DK in the end zone was goofy. He's some good things but seems to be struggling to get in a flow. I think he can still be a great OC and fixing the line which would allow him to run the ball more would fix a lot of things.

If the offense continues to struggle for the rest of the year I would be fine either way but I would add multiple changes need to be made if that happens.

The frustrating part about those 9 plays is if we make the throw to the TE who was open we're not having the conversation at all and yet people ignore that because they have an ax to grind with Grubb. Ideally we should look at the whole sequence and call out everyone who failed in that spot Grubb included.

Yep, some of the play calls are next level head scratchers. They seem allergic to the QB sneak. A fade against Sauce? Just a plain dumb play call. Plus, the throw was 5 yards out of bounds. Dumb play call, worst execution. Can't call the game like you're at UW.
Things def. get glossed over, like missing a wide open Fant in the end zone. That's one that's on one specific person, the QB.

Totally agree. Couple of things that come to my mind though:
  • Do you think coaches get a little more slack when it comes to performance than players? I'm all for executing a hostage when it comes to players, eliminates the immediate problem as well as motivates the rest of the team. But there's a much shallower pool of talent when it comes to quality coaches which changes the terms a little bit. Plus, if a team gets a reputation for mowing through coaches (Raiders, Jets), the really talented guys will be hesitant to work for you.
  • Speaking of slack, how much should we fairly give Grubb considering the goof troop offensive line he inherited? I'm just as frustrated with the play calling as the next fan, but it would be tough for any OC to string together a consistent offense under these conditions.
And for the record, I say we get a counter going on the header of .Net for how many players Coach Macdonald cuts and/or trades. I'm really starting to enjoy the LONG overdue housecleaning he's been doing.

The NFL is a passing league so I think he stays for at least a couple of seasons. One thing I would change is John’s view that guards are overrated. That’s proven wrong week after week.

I was yelling at the TV on the fade at Sauce.

But even though I've defended Grubb at times because I'm a husky homer if Mike feels like its best to move on I trust him and will fully support it.

And he seems a little lost. Some of that is not being able to run which I think has more to do with the the players than him but regardless he needs to figure out a way around it.

+1, huge UW fan. But he seems to be in over his head. Unless I see drastic improvement in the play calling, I'm into a change. That being said, this was who Mike chose, so there is that side of it. He talked about it on 710 ESPN, that he told JS this is who he wants as his OC.
