Geno's season stats in what could have been his last game of the season today, leaving Sunday's game with an ankle injury:
Passing Yardage: 3025 yards (19th)
Avg Yards Per Pass: 6.8 (23rd)
TD's: 19 (20th)
INT's: 17 (1st)
Sacks: 55 (1st)
Comp Percentage: 67.4 (10th)
QBR: 34.1 (29th)
RTG: 84.7 (30th)
Geno played on a bad Raider team. How much did that play into Geno's statistically bad year, and how much did Geno's poor play lead to the Raiders 2-14 record is up for debate. It's quite possible the Raiders could say bye-bye to both PC and Geno at season's end. Geno's contract is structured so that his dead CAP money is not at all prohibitive to cutting him loose. It would also save them the money they would pay him in non-guaranteed salary. The only question would be will they keep him so that they can bring their QBOTF along more slowly who they will surely take in the draft? My guess would be no, but we'll see. I don't think they'd keep him around as a backup to their QBOTF.
If the Raiders do cut him loose, is this the end of the line for him as a starter in the league? I suppose some team could use him as a short term bridge QB to their longer term answer at QB, although I don't know what team that might be besides the Raiders. He could also serve as a temporary starter if a team's starting QB goes down to injury next year. Other than that, at his age and coming off such a poor season, I think his days as a starter in the league may be over.
