That's your opinion but a lot of people around the league are saying otherwise and if he does get them to the SB it'll be hard to argue with them.
Those people around the league are going to pay Sam Darnold a whole lot of money to be Sam Darnold

I’m sorry, but I cannot believe the take on this by the folks on this board. McCarthy was not a great college quarterback and tore his ACL this year and yet to take a regular season snap in the NFL.Now people want to give up a second round and fourth round pick for him? What is this world coming to?
This is simply untrue. JJ did what he was tasked with doing and did it well. He wasn't asked to do much in a Harbaugh system focused on the run game (75/25) not the passing game. In 2023 he went 21/27 for 287 yds against MSU and 24/37 for 335 yds against Purdue. So he did have some games where he was asked to do more but most games he just had to do enough to keep teams from stacking the box on the run game.

The Vikes should hold on to both for 2025. McCarthy had to have two surgeries, and he's never played a meaningful snap.
He's had two surgeries for one injury which is not the same thing as having two surgeries for two injuries. One was to repair the meniscus the other to address swelling from the first surgery.

It's not just Cowherd suggesting it, Adam Schefter is too.

https://www.si.com/nfl/seahawks/seahawks-news/should-seahawks-trade-for-qb-j-j-mccarthy

Should they draft a quarterback? The 2025 NFL Draft is a notoriously poor QB class. It's next to impossible for them to acquire a pick high enough to draft Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward. Anyone else they pick would be a project in the middle rounds.

What if there was a first round signal caller from last year's much stronger QB class that is available via trade? Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings are at least taking calls about their 2024 10th overall pick J.J. McCarthy.

“JJ McCarthy would’ve been a top if not THE top QB in this draft.”@AdamSchefter says teams will be calling the @Vikings to inquire about their rookie QB this offseason 👀 pic.twitter.com/ccgautztGb

The Vikings still owe us for the Hutchison debacle. To be fair, they should just trade him straight up for Howell. At least Howell has more NFL experience than McCarthy. That’s how I’m selling it. :ROFLMAO:

Time to overpay for a guy the Vikings drafted way too highly because this QB class is weak?
They're likely to overpay for someone. Would you rather it be Darnold, Geno or McCarthy?

In my mind JJ has the most upside.

I didn't have McCarthy graded highly and I still don't. I don't think Darnold is better than Geno and any stat outside of TDs would agree. Darnold has been gifted a stellar offense and a solid offense and he has proven capable in that scenario to be good enough.

I'd take Geno -> McCarthy -> Darnold but I'd prefer to pay none of them. Tell Geno that he'll be on one year contracts the rest of his career because he's going into his 35 year old season. There is no payday coming.

JJ's only upside is age.

No way the Vikings give up a top 5 pick (compared to this years QB talent pool) for a 2nd and 4th. You'll have to give up a first rounder for sure. Since the Hawks 1st round pick is 18 you're probably going to have to give up something more.

McCarthy has had 2 surgeries but for the same injury. The first to repair the second to address swelling from the first surgery. Saying he's had two surgeries makes it sound like he's had to injuries and that's not the case.

He wouldn't even be a Top 5 pick now and he's not worth more than a 2nd and 4th.

I don't want another 9 win season with Geno and I think 10 wins is his ceiling. Either try something different and hope it works or stink. Either is better than mediocrity in the NFL. We aren't close to contending

And you're grading JJ based on what? Stats? Eye test? I'll stick with people who actually evaluate NFL talent for a living, and they would say you're wrong.

Darnold and Geno are likely gonna get paid whether you like it or not. There are lots of teams in need of QB talent and someone will pony up the cash. JJ will cost next to nothing for the next 3 years and could be the Hawks QBotF.

JJ's upside is completely unknown and for you to say it's only age is ridiculous because you don't know.

Adam Schefter seems to think otherwise and I think he knows a little more about NFL QB talent than you do.

I thought McCarthy was excellent in college and looked great in preseason before he got hurt. He was drafted super young and needed to sit a year or two anyway. The Vikings basically just did that for a hypothetical team trading for him, and that's a pretty good organization to be learning under. He honestly might fit out timeline perfectly.

You’re kidding right?
You are the most biased person on here. JJ was a scheme QB on a dominant Michigan team. He wasn’t worth a 1st round last year and he won’t be worth more this year.

Again, still a chance it COULD happen. Literally all I'm trying to say.
Dump Geno, sign jones, give minni a first for jj. Now you have your qb. Let them compete for the job. If jj isn’t ready Jones will be just fine with our weapons. The giants were a dumpster fire.
