I think you would have to drastically over pay for him and only if they were sold on Darnold as a long term solution. Even then it would be wise for them to keep McCarthy. But you know how teams can get when they think they are so close and some thing might just put them over the top.

Reminds me of the Groucho Marx quote "I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."

Many people think that the Vikings have the best combination of offensive weapons, OL and offensive minded head coach in the NFL. I very much doubt that KOC would be suddenly willing to shop a QB the Vikings just spent the 10th overall pick on around for a huge discount, but if he was then that should be as large as red flags get.

Couldn't be worse than what we have noe lol. Still strong on the Kyle McCord train though
The voice of dot net, right here. We have the WORST in the league; anyone is better and will be an upgrade.

The wisdom of dot net never failed to amuse.

I wouldn't mind this trade. As long as we don't get fleeced again on a trade. Especially for a kid who never started a down in the NFL and who got injured in the preseason.

It would be a red flag if they were shopping him (IF they shop him) despite needing him, but this would be a special situation. This is more like when you sell something good on ebay or marketplace because while it might be a great product in great shape, it's just collecting dust at home. If Darnold does lead the Vikings to a deep playoff run and the team decides he would be their best option going forward, it's not like they can go back and not draft McCarthy, although if they had to do that draft again in that situation, they almost definitely would not take him. Doesn't mean McCarthy isn't still a quality prospect.

Could be a tremendous opportunity. Don't think it will happen, but I sure hope we're one of the teams in on it if he becomes available.

I'd like to try something different. We are stuck in mediocrity right now. Take the gamble, worst case you stink and get good draft capital. We are nowhere close to a super bowl right now

That's the part that I'm skeptical about and it depends on if you think the Vikings are good evaluators of talent. The difference in expected contracts between Darnold and McCarthy next season is tremendous and it only makes sense for them to pay Darnold huge QB money if they think the difference in production between the two would also be huge. They have a lot of great pieces around the QB that are currently affordable and would remain so with McCarthy.

We have a better shot at trading for Lawrence than JJ. Doubt the Vikings are ready to give up on him yet

I don't see a scenario where Vikings trade JJ. Darnold will hit FA and get overpaid by someone else, probably the Giants. He'll prove to be the same mid QB he's always been and JJ will enjoy similar success with a top notch Minnesota squad.
If they go to the SB the Vikings will absolutely pay Darnold. Why would you go from a known commodity to an unknown with lots of potential? If that happens then the Hawks should give up their 18th pick and if need be their 2nd too, as their are no realistic reclamation projects like Darnold to be had and they aren't sniffing a QBotF at 18.

Minnesota has only 3 picks in the 2025 draft a first rounder and 2 fifth rounders. They would likely be interested in acquiring more.

Jacksonville just signed Lawrence to a new contract, he's not going anywhere.

Maybe they'd trade him after next year. But it would be stupid to trade JJ this year even if you signed Darnold. Especially for some mid rounders.
No you'd have to give up your first and probably 2nd. JJ is better than any of the QBs in the 2025 draft.

Because Darnold isn’t that good.

If it's for a 2nd and 4th I'd take it, if it's more then no. He's already had 2 surgeries so that's concerning
No way the Vikings give up a top 5 pick (compared to this years QB talent pool) for a 2nd and 4th. You'll have to give up a first rounder for sure. Since the Hawks 1st round pick is 18 you're probably going to have to give up something more.

McCarthy has had 2 surgeries but for the same injury. The first to repair the second to address swelling from the first surgery. Saying he's had two surgeries makes it sound like he's had to injuries and that's not the case.

That's your opinion but a lot of people around the league are saying otherwise and if he does get them to the SB it'll be hard to argue with them.
