It was bound to happen. However, losing 1 of the 4 isn't that big of a deal. Still got our shut down #1 CB and our centerfield leader in ET with our hammer Kam. Browner is the one disposable piece imo. Maxwell and Lane are serviceable and we'll probably grab one in the draft at some point.

:229031_confused2: I struggle with the thought of an income of $555,000 for 2013 as ..... cheap.
Football is a mutli-billion dollar industry, 555,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to what the nfl makes.

I see RW taking a pay cut to keep key players such as BB.

Wilson can't help any with Browner as the team can't negotiate with him until his 3rd season is completed and that is after next season.

He's on a rookie contract for four years as set by the new players contract.

:les:

^ This is what I was thinking.
Why not try to get some deals done before they are up?

IMO Walter Thurmond is gone next season. I can see teams throwing him some cash. Browner tho we might retain if he doesn't ask for a ridiculously amount of money. So many young guns waitin' for a shot and they are cap friendly, still on their rookie contracts (Simon, Shead, Maxwell and Lane). Remember we still gotta re-sign Thomas, Sherm and Wilson. Those guys will command serious $$$$

With regard to players like Thurmond that spent so much time being injured, do they honestly not feel "some" level of obligation to give the team that didn't give up on them a fair shake. Maybe a bit of a discount?

I'm not saying he should but I am curious if it comes into play at all.
I feel like Thurmond would want to stay because of this reason and for the playing time opposite of Sherman. I don't think BB will be a starting level CB by next year. Injuries, regression, and age are not on his side, and I doubt he "cashes" in since the post new CBA doesn't seem to favor "old" vets now. I bet only a few teams go after him, but the Hawks shouldn't offer him more than his current contract.

As for Thurmond...Even with a hometown discount, I don't see us being able to keep him with contracts to ET3, Tate, and Baldwin this year and then Wilson and Sherman next year.

I think why BB and his agent decided to take the one year deal with the Hawks this year...
The Seahawks basically just gave him a raise on the last year of his contract. There was no one year deal, in the sense that he was going to be a free agent otherwise -- he was still contractually obligated.

Agreed BB is the most disposable piece. That said, the math on keeping both RS and ET is pretty hard to figure out also, as they're both basically universally acknowledged as the top player at their respective positions at this point. Even a home-town discount means they're expecting the current biggest contract at their position to be matched (just not exceeded by a meaningful amount). Like all things it's doable, but I can't think of a single team that has two of the highest paid players in the league in the same position group. Will be interesting to see what happens and if they can pull it off (and if they can, what the cost at other positions will be; meaning who they'll have to let go to pull it off)

Has there been anymore news on BB's injury status? Tried checking nfl.com but they don't list him in their week 10 injury round up. They list everyone else that had an injury of some sort but no BB .. And as much as i like Thurmond, BB being physical is huge imo. His physical play style is enough to bother the receivers he's defending
