Time for a complete overhaul

I've been trying to be optimistic and patient for years now. But the reality is that this is a bad team and major changes need to be made and it's honestly been a downward spiral since that fateful play against New England. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on the all rookie coaching staff but it's time for John to go and it's time for a complete overhaul of how this team is built from the ground up. We are so poor in the trenches it's embarrassing. Our QB throws tantrums like a child and is inconsistent at best. We haven't been able to stop the run for years. We routinely shoot ourselves in the foot and we have little discipline and no balance on offense. Not to mention the 12s are not a thing anymore and home games are starting to feel like road games.

I want this team to be sellers at the deadline. Trade Geno. Trade DK. Trade Leo. We are not winning a superbowl this year, let alone a playoff game. I want to restock this franchise and build it the right way, from the trenches up. On offense, I want to keep K9, JSN, AJ, and Cross and on defense, I want to keep Murph, EJ4, Spoon, Hall, and Mafe. That's your core. Everyone else is expendable. We need to do what the Lions did and build this team around a goddamn offensive line. I know I'll catch a ton of hate for this and everyone will tell me that I'm overreacting but I don't want to be a 7-9 win team for an eternity. It's time for the FO to face the music and start making some drastic changes. I am terrified that this team is going to end up like the Mariners, spinning wheels and clinging to a bygone era.

I’ve been super ready for a rebuild instead of just hanging on to mediocre. John has to go then start rebuilding around another QB. Geno is average at best and he’ll never take us far enough. Meanwhile, I’ll still root for hawks no matter what but we need changes.

Again, though: Where is the rebuilding? I see no rebuilding.

I see a team that is against the cap next year already with no surplus draft capital. I see a team that already has young cornerstones to build around.

The rebuild was in 2022 and continued in 2023. This is year 3 of that stretch and it's supposed to be the year that we actually start making some strides.

We are not rebuilding right now. We do not have the appropriate ingredients for a rebuild. The front office is not managing personnel in a way that indicates rebuild.

Exactly. And I have to remind myself of that, at least after brutal losses. This was how it was gonna' be, some good and some really bad. Still makes you grumpy af, but when you get a day or two out, you can at least accept it a little more. Even if I don't want to sometimes :D

Exactly! We are trying to stay competitive and win now. This reminds me of my first passion, the Vancouver Canucks. After we got swept in 2012 by the 8th place Kings, our GM wanted to rebuild, but ownership wouldn't let him. We held on to older players to make the playoffs, and then when they saw the error of their ways, they decided they wanted to re-tool instead of rebuild, and we toiled in mediocrity from then up until 2 years ago. We have now gotten younger and built through the draft, and we are a contender again. We need to rip the bandaid off, and do what we did when JS and PC got here, and build the team around MM's vision, not with PC's spare parts.

First piece that has to go is John Schneider, man, honestly.

Schneider doesn’t draft offensive lineman well, so, he will draft defensive lineman but he doesn’t exactly hit on those picks either.

Only one I have have high hopes for is Murphy and maybe Mafe. I can’t remember JS hitting on drafting lineman that are game wreckers.

Has there even been?

Schneider has too go.

We need a new GM to rebuild both trenches. I like Mac though. I’ll keep Mac.

John has been exposed. Where are the all pros? Where are the game wreckers? He sure as hell ain't drafting them.

Right. Trade Geno. Trade DK. Trade Leo.

And replace them with what? Top talent is hard to come by. There's 53 players on a team and the top 1,696 players IN THE WORLD are already on rosters. To say you don't like a player because we should have a better, less expensive player is ridiculous. Unless someone gets hurt or ages out, there are none.

We haven't had less than 7 wins since JS got here in 2010. No team goes to the super bowl every year, and for every LA Rams that mortgages the future for the ring -- there's plenty of 49ers, Eagles, Bears, and Browns that just mortgage their futures.

The secret to a happy life is being able to appreciate it when you've got it good.

Complete overhaul? As new front office, new coaching? Or roster overhaul.

New front office, that our lovely Jody can do it anytime.

New coaching? Didn't we just install young Macdonald a few months ago and gave him a SIX year contract?

New roster? We ain't got no cap and we just traded away a few picks.

Please tell us how do you propose to execute that complete overhaul?

Here's a quick breakdown of what's needed in this overhaul:

New offensive line
New QB
New defense
New defensive coordinator
New strength/conditioning coach
New training facilities
New General Manager
New head coach
New stadium
New owner

If we can just improve those things, we might have a shot at a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

Murphy, Nwusu, Mafe and Big Cat are pretty f'ing good.
Are they really?

Murphy is a rookie and he looks promising, but we’ll see
Nwosu got injured so not John ‘s fault but you can’t say he is good if he can’t be on the field
Mafe is good, but I need to see more consistency
Big Cat is good as well but he’s not a game wrecker and he’s on the wrong side of 30

The last truly great proven player that I can remember John drafting was DK Metcalf. Cross has shown a huge improvement this year so he could be on that trajectory as well. Walker is also on that trajectory.

With all of this said, don’t need good, we need great!!
