I have to admit the news of browner being out for a while didn't really strike the fear in me, we have very competent back ups that I'm sure most people were clamoring to have start in the wake of browner's not-so-great start to the season. IMO though he has stepped it up in the past couple of games. While i don't like that he or any player gets hurt, could this workout to our advantage in the department of resigning him? An oversized corner on a down year who didn't play out the year? If we could get him for cheap enough should we retain him? I have the sneaky feeling that Walter Thurmond May be more sought out than BB by the end of the year.

Browner will be a hot commodity this offseason. Don't think for minute that other teams haven't noticed Pete's preference for huge corners and seen the difference they can make. Browner can and will get paid big money next year. I wish the Hawks could keep him but I just don't see it with all of the other younger guys coming due. I would put money on the Giants signing him. They seem to pick up guys the Hawks don't resign. Would hate to see BB go the 49ers or any other NFC west team.

BB won't go to the niners.

Richard Sherman goes out of his way to tell people not to play for Harbaugh.

IMO Walter Thurmond is gone next season. I can see teams throwing him some cash. Browner tho we might retain if he doesn't ask for a ridiculously amount of money. So many young guns waitin' for a shot and they are cap friendly, still on their rookie contracts (Simon, Shead, Maxwell and Lane). Remember we still gotta re-sign Thomas, Sherm and Wilson. Those guys will command serious $$$$

This is such a tough subject because having Browner has really helped legitimize the whole "big corner" debate that has gone on for generations in the NFL... I think the bottom line is that Browner is now too big to play the position. You might liken it to freakish RB's who thicken over the course of their career only to find themselves a half-step too slow to be explosive. Browner has played so well for this team and done everything he could and done it the right way. For many reasons I believe he is the 2nd best corner on the team, and I also have many reasons to believe this is his last year as a corner, and possibly last year playing elite in the league. I really want to give this guy a big plaque to hang on his wall: Certificate of Achievement - The Guy Who Helped Change Everything

Our fearless Defensive Back Field can see "the handwriting on the wall". They can see the "vultures" circling, waiting for the end of February.
We'll have to wait and see if "Moses" Schneider can lead his team through "the valley of the shadow of death".

I'd let him take the money and run. Browner's abilities at CB are going to soon fall off a cliff as he hits the wrong side of 30 and becomes a very lumbering runner (he can barely sink his hips and change direction as it is). I expect him to be a safety somewhere within the next 2-3 seasons at most.

This shows a lack of recognition to the CB market last offseason, it was DEAD. Good, healthy CBs weren't getting the contracts they anticipated. BB is old for a 1st time FA, and will have come off a year with 2+ injuries causing him to miss time. If he Doesn't come back at all, that will further diminish his market. Not saying he signs for pennies, but there is no way he signs for "big money". I'd bet BIG MONEY on THAT!

Honestly... I don't see us retaining Browner because I think a team like the Raiders, they have a horrid secondary, will sign him to a nice contract we can't afford to contend with. I'm not sure if we're going to be real jiggy with signing Thurmond due to the health issues he's had since we drafted him. Top it all off... Are we going to wrap that kind of money up on DBs when we have Thomas and Sherman due for renegotiations by the end of next year... if not this offseason. Their's a reason why we got a big DB on our PS and another one sitting the season out to make sure he's at 100% the start of next year. I just don't think we can afford to pay Browner and Thurmond the kind of money other teams will throw at them. Eagles, Giants, Raiders, Broncos... One of these teams is going to throw a boatload of money at Browner to shore up their sorry secondary.

I see RW taking a pay cut to keep key players such as BB.

BB is the best corner ever vs screens.......and I mean ever.
However, if he gets one step slower, he'll be to slow to cover WR's.

True, but he's big enough to play safety

I think WTIII will be far more desireable going forward. He can play in any scheme. He's younger. He gets penalized way less. If we can only keep one I'd take WTIII for sure, but I think he will cost more

I don't see that BB or WT3 will be super expensive to sign. As pointed out , the market was not that hot. The big names that did change teams have not really lived up to the big contracts.

Our 2 I mentioned both have had significant injury histories. BB is getting older as well. I suspect the Hawks have a must resign , hope to resign and would only resign near then minimum lists.

I don't see either the Seahawks letting Thurmond go (since Browner is probably gone) or anyone paying him a ton of money. He's the definition of injury prone.

I'm signing right here.

Browner WILL be a Seahawks next year.
If players like Bennett and Avril couldn't get huge contracts, a player like Browner, who will be 30 when the 2014 season kicks off and likely to have missed around 10 games in the previous two seasons is NOT going to attract huge money on the FA market.

Thurmond might get overpaid on the basis of one decent season, but given he has a history of missing 3 out of the last 4 years, and as of yet has 0 career interceptions - nobody is lining up to make him their number 1 guy.

The LOB loves playing together too much. He'll give us a hefty discount.

Besides, how many teams have a safety that can help him out and still cover 2/3 of the field?

I don't think anyone who is about to get their first big deal is going to give a 'hefty' discount.

Anyone who is going to offer BB BIG money is a team with a top flight free safety, salary cap room and team with the potential to win it all.

How many of those are out there?

My gut instinct tells me that BB goes down to Jacksonville for an overpaid salary.
