Are the Seahawks being targeted for player "issues"?

No the Seahawks aren't "targeted" Browner and Thurmond were already wearing targets!
Look at the length of the suspensions announced, then look at the collective bargaining agreement, and you'll realize that, those two were already being drug tested frequently as a part of the NFL's drug abuse prevention program.
How do I know they were already in the program?
Again, look at the length of the suspensions, and the CBA.
First time offenders become a part of the drug program, where they are subjected to frequent testing and stricter rules. They do not get suspended however.
Multiple offenders already in the program are the ones who get four game or longer suspensions. Browner facing the suspension he is tells us logically that, he's a multiple, multiple offender. Thurmond has failed at LEAST once before.

Yes, but that's my rub. If Browner is facing a 1yr suspension under the substance abuse policy, then he had to have been suspended before (and iirc within the last two seasons) for four games for a non-PED violation. However, I don't remember this ever happening.

Which is enough to raise my suspicions at the very least.

I'm not here to defend our players, they are grown men and make their own decisions.

However, the timing of this is suspect to me. It is two years in a row, that down the final stretch drive that the Seahawks get tested and caught. Granted if they didn't do anything wrong there would be no need to worry.

But, does anyone believe that we are the only team with drug issues. It does seem odd that we get tested when things are going our way. Paranoid, maybe; but the coincidence of the test timings get you thinking.

If Browner cant play the rest of the year because of MJ.... but Aldon smith can play out his year after possibly killing people on the road and being a blatant retard with his firearm antics... then what else is one suppose to think.

This is the thing I've been stuck on for a while now...

If I put my emotionalism and distrust aside for a moment however, I understand it takes the league a long time to take action against a player for violating league rules on substances. We still don't have the final word on Marshawn's drunk driving charge from last year. I trust Aldon's time is still coming.

If folks remember from last year, the failed PED tests happened many months before the league handed down the suspensions for Browner and Sherman. It would be logical to assume that the same timeline exists with Browner and Thurmond's current suspensions. Most likely, the failed tests took place early in the season if not before.

The timing of the latest suspensions sucks and seems suspicious, just like last year's did, but I think my proclivity to assume bias or mistreatment is misplaced in these instances...at least I hope it is. Just like 9/11/01 changed how many of us look at things in the world forever, 2/6/05 changed how I look at the NFL forever. :icon_new:

when Aldon Smith was busted for DUI at 7 o'clock in the morning they also found marijuana and a prescription drug in his car that was not his. shouldn't the league test immediately when they find prescription drugs that are not his? also if you stayed up until 7 o'clock in the morning partying and drinking to the point that you passed up behind the wheel and crashed your car what kind of prescription drugs would you be taking to be ready to go to practice in an hour two? aderall comes to mind.

I'm not being paranoid here. Seriously, it's quite coincidental that we are at the top, and suddenly we are being tagged with player misconduct.

WTF?!!

Could it have anything to do with players just being dumb enough to do drugs when they're not supposed to?

Seriously, can we dispense with the conspiracy theory bull?

We are the poster team for drug violations. Our team breaks the rules more then any on drug related issues.

It's absolutely nothing to be proud of.
Do we know that for sure or is it when our guys screw up it is big news? Just a thought.

Given that if you compare Seattle to other NFL Franchises, there are at least a half dozen others that are within an incidence or two of Seattle's, I do think that the Seahawks are being specifically targeted. I.E. I think it's the later.

The Seahawks core is one of the youngest in the NFL. That could have some part in it. The Texans cut 3 1st players this year after sending them home right before a game on the road where they supposedly were found to be smoking dope in one of their rooms.

Young players are usually going to be the main ones caught, unless they are Sam Hurd. Eventually those that cannot mask the usage well enough get dropped off NFL rosters. Now Browner's case makes little sense. Would think he has been through the ups and downs and knew how to mask his partaking.

I would not be surprised to see more. This is the same to me as Koren, Stevens, Hill and Lofa and their issues. Athletes are just as flawed as the common Joe. They just have a larger impact on things important to me.

Doubt very seriously that this occurred during the bye. Browner supposedly already went through appeals and testing/results/appeal surely cannot happen in less than a week. These failures most likely happened weeks ago.

i doubt the rest is being treated equally, how many teams do you know when a player is suspended or whatever the NFL.com goes outta thier way to make a huge "developing story" tag at the top, like CNN... idk i hate NFL.com and all their biased crap.

Ask yourself what is more interesting

Tampa bay kicker out with MRSA and they are still at the bottom of the league

OR

Number 1 team in the league has TWO "starting" cornerbacks suspended for multiple games putting the NFC up for grabs....

Maybe not everything is a conspiracy. Maybe one of our players was STUPID and the second one CHEATED and they got busted and we are getting exactly the publicity we deserve.

And one of the guys here at work told me he couldn't find the Browner story yesterday. So part of this is us Seahawks fans looking for news about our team

Ohh come the hell on. Our players need to stop being selfish and breaking rules, instead of placing blame on the league.

Well said. Our players need to step up and be responsible!

The Seahawks are not being targeted. If our players wouldn't do stupid shit in the first place, then nothing would come of it. Don't get angry at the league for our players breaking the rules.

Well the Vikings punter had a great game this last week and had two 65 yard punts, Next morning they said pee in a cup. Thurmond has had some really good games as of late, guess they think he looks to good and said pee in a cup. Browner having been a offender before was already in their line of sites, it was dumb on his part to be in any situation for him to fail a test.

Viking kicker made a joke of the yeah it's random, have a good game and you randomly are tested.
