They are 3-0 and haven't come CLOSE to their potential. This team is a playoff contender in a year they were expected to be a 7 to 9 win team, transition etc.
If people can't just enjoy this, hmmmm

According to this site, we have a 73% chance of making the playoffs, and a 23% chance of being the conference champions. Second only to the Vikings (78% and 28%) in both, in the NFC.

Niner, Rams, and Cards are sitting at around 30% chance of making the playoffs.

Define "real". I assume "real" is a team that is top 8?

Are they a team that is 3-0? yes. Are they a team that is 3-0 beating teams that are not exactly the top of the NFL? Yes. Have they beat those teams in a way that says the Seahawks did not just squeak by? Yes (mostly). Did they beat those teams in a way that say they are incredibly dominant? No. Does dominating a bad team make you a good team? No. Have they played any "good" (and healthy) team yet? No.

I think to say the team is or is not real right now would be jumping the gun.

Which makes me ask the question..

Is Detroit not as good or is Phoenix better ?

PHX is pretty good - but only as long as Good Kyler is playing. If Bad Kyler shows up they are not great. And it is only a matter of time before bad Kyler shows up.....he always does. If there is a new Call of Duty coming out - Bad Kyler is already on his way - that is Kryptonite for Good Kyler.

I think you can both enjoy the wins as a fan, and crave them to get better and turn a season of solid results (9 or 10 wins) into a really strong season with a playoff run. I never had this team as less than a 500 team this year, and didn't really understand those who had pessimistic predictions of 7-8 wins this year.
But the question was about whether they are for "real" which I think would be above expectations for most/nearly all fans this year for a team that is rolling out a new program

As Coach Parcels said: "You are what your record says you are."

For real? 3-0 is real even if the Seahawks are disrespected at 3-0.

Next question.

Will the Seahawks be respected if they go to 4-0?

I'd bet, not so much. Smile and wave boys, smile and wave.

Back in Seattle.
Doubt they're real superb owl contenders, but I've always thought they were run well with JS and Paul Allen Trust. So we're always a move or two away which is a great place to be as an NFL fan.

What does "for real" even mean?

We are a team that over the last decade has consistently been over 500 but haven't made the championship game, this was not deemed poor enough clear out the coaching staff.

Is a "Real team"
  • A team that is expected to win the SB? (say a top 4 team)
  • A team that is likely to get to the championship game (top 8)
  • A team that is likely to make the playoffs (top 16)
  • Any NFL team (or even college team) that physically exists "Real" being as opposed to Fantasy
Have the Seahwaks been a real team since 2014?

We have won 3 games against poor teams, needing OT in the only road game. Good teams do sometimes lose to poor teams (e.g .Tampa Bay yesterday) so getting 3-0 still says something. We have injuries but so do many othre teams. Last season we had a good offence dispite a weak Oline and a very poor D. This year it looks as if the D is much improved but until it is tested we don't know whether it is an average defence or a top defence. We also don't know as the season goes on whether out D will get more practised in the new defensive style or other teams will learn how to defeat it. The O-line looks even worse than last year, losing two RTs and K9 but it could also be bacuase we have a rookie HC with little experience on the offensive side of the ball.

I expect another season where we end up around 9/8 and may or may not make the play-offs, if we do we will almost certainly lose in the WC round or possibly the divsisional round.

Does that make us real?

I've been thinking about this. Are the 3-0 Seahawks for real?

I've been skeptical.. new coaching staff, new systems both offensively and defensively. I was of the opinion of ,"prove it" then I will believe.

That being said;

They have not played elite competition yet. But , the communication between players and coaches seems to be good, the players seem to respond to the coach's and the schemes.

The players seems to be disciplined on the field except for a lot of penelties which could be being comfotable in the new scheme at least offensively.

Grubb seems to have a nice feel for the NFL and that was a concern for me I think that is not a concern for me any more.

MaDonald seems to have good command of the head coaching job so far and has proven to me that he belongs in the head coaching job.

The coaching staff seems to be performing up to expectation looking at the success both offensively and defensively.

#6 defensively is beyond expectation for me anyway...but considering the competition they have played Miami with a third string QB and Denver with a rookie QB. but who knows, there is no reason they can't keep it going but I expect that as the completion gets harder that ranking will drop. But ya know maybe they will keep it in the top ten.

That D line is brutal and they can blitz from any where on the field, and I like what they are doing much more than Miami's QB . 😆 seems like a they are giving up some rushing yards up the middle maybe that is a scheme adjustment.. they are starting to get a little beat up on that D line. This D has a lot of potential. Mac is rising to the occasion!

Offensively, they flash! It's just a lack of consistancy. Maybe the O line needs to play better maybe it's because they are still learning the O and they are growing into the scheme. Lots of room to grow but Grubb is using his talent very well... and I like his mix of rules and pass!

I would say, MacDonald has done a great job with this team as to this point....and not just because they are 3 and 0, but because they work through adversity well. They play hard and have taken on MacDonalds personality... at least that's what I see.

I think after the first three games that they are absolutely for real. It's a long season and there is lots of room to grow. This team has the tools to be dynamic on both sides of the ball.

let's see what they do in the next 4 games.

LTH
They are not the real thing yet.

But we can see glimmers of it from where we are.

It’s the NFL, it’s any given Sunday. So far I’m convinced a lot of you who are very much in the “I TOLD YOU SO” crowd would still not be convinced even if they were to go all the way to the playoffs. If they made it that far. If not it would be “ooh we were right!” Or if they made it and lost “oh we were right!” Hell they could go to the sb and someone of y’all would still beat the same damn drum.

And honestly the constant phucking “they have face a challenge yet” attitude around here is very much tiring to read. Jfc they’re as @keasley45 stated above

They are playing without:

Their best RT
Their 2nd best RT
A reliable Guard
Their best RB
Their best D lineman

They are dinged at LB

They are still learning to play together”

Yet somehow that’s not a challenge or still not good enough. Jfc lol Whatya want? Sam Howell as starter, and all starters out injured? Is that challenging enough? It’s the NFL, these dude didn’t get here based of looks.
I'm actually quite happy where we are. New coach has made all the difference in my opinion. Loving it. Refs sucked yesterday and I hated that.

Yea, we've got some warts - but we're fighting through them, and that's the main thing. We feel ALOT more TEAM-ey this year than I've seen in almost a decade.

I've got some legit hope for the first time in about 5 years...... And not just for a superbowl - but that they show up and ******* compete every week. Like I said in another post - Jesus, Lockett yesterday got UP from the turn and tried for some YAC. Tell me the new coach ain't making a difference! MM is in the press saying "We're good but not good enough!". "Run defense last game made me sick to my stomach." What a difference from the endless word salads under PC.

Literally the only thing that I could grasp at is the unneeded penalty yards on Spoon. BUT, I'm confident that he'll get schooled by the coaching staff - which is something I definitely could NOT have said the last few years.

Go Hawks! :)

Lions will be a great indicator of where we think we are IMHO.

Which leads me to a question for all :

At what point in the season could we or other teams fans say that their team is
"For real"? 3-0 seems a little premature imo yet winning the first 3 games is tough no matter who the opponent is.

I remember John Madden saying something to the effect of " get with me about week 8 and let's talk" in a way only Madden can. That's always stuck with me. I'd like to think Seattle will go 10-7 but a heck of a lot of things can and will happen. I'm excited to see what happens next Monday in Detroit .

That will get the attention of the national media. Good or bad.

We are a team heading in the right direction under new leadership and I couldn't be more excited. Our time is coming and sooner rather than later. But our OL is gonna get exposed against better teams and we need to fix it before we are legit contending.

The Chiefs have been winning ugly for years now . Maybe the formula works? Just keep playing top 5 D, and we will be a playoff team. I honestly believe next year this team will be contending for the SB.

Trending up, truly what matters. Shoot, I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't see this coming this early. Felt like it would take longer. And it will get a hell of a lot better, imo. Find way to win, no matter what it looks like. Last year? This team loses 2 or maybe all 3 of these games.
