I hate having to admit Fant never lived up to his billing and potential for a first rounder. But for roughly the same amount of money (I think) the guy we got to take his place is going to be a game wrecker. Hoping it happens sooner than usual for rookies.

Elijah Arroyo
$1,602,431

Eric Saubert
$1,197,500

A.J. Barner
$1,148,777

All 3 total less than half of Fants savings.

$71,950,001 in total dead money.
Hey John,

There used to be a dead money chart at OTC but I don't see it there anymore. Almost $72 million in dead money seems like a lot. Is that just for this season, or is part of it shared with next year? Eating Geno's deal and those of few others have added up but the Hawk should be well situated for next season barring a few big releases.

Colour me embarrassed, I didn't scroll down enough.

There are 4 pretty big contracts the team has eaten this offseason and another 4 totalling almost $10 mil, but if things work out the team will be in very good shape capwise next offseason.

I've been following this years skillful cap maneuvers by John Schneider. A very exciting prelude to the 2025 season.

A much needed year for resetting their cap. Over the two most recent off seasons, they have now written off the last of all the lingering Covid induced cap costs kicked down the road. Along with upset write offs along the way such as Jamar Adams and Dre'Mont Jones cap hits. Very productive cap story. The cap reset is also reflected in this years current active cap spending numbers which is second lowest after only the Saints. Nicely cleaned up cap. The team is in good hands.

Speaking of rosters, ESPN NFL writers ranked the rosters of all 32 NFL teams. Of note:

#8 Rams
#10 49ers
#17 Cards
#20 Seahawks

Respect!

We'll see whether the Hawks are really the NFC-W' #4 team.

Seahawks make several roster moves ahead starting TC tomorrow.

added:
CB- Kam Alexander
NT- Justin Rogers

combine profiles:

waived:
CB- Zy Alexander who was on active NFI

I suspect we may see Zy Alexander back once he gets healthy.

Updated.

The team is certainly having a very long look at different NTs the last two seasons. Justin Rogers appears to be another on the long list but seems to be a potentially solid addition. The backup positions at NT are going be well tested when kept around.

Thought Kam Alexander played well for Oregon last season to a point that I thought he'd be drafted for sure.

Zy Alexander had $234,000 in guaranteed salary, but I'm assuming the NFI designation voids that. Kind of a new situation so there may be some nuance to the situation. He's also the first post-June 1 release so he's officially our first 2026 dead cap number. He had a $15,000 signing bonus so he'll count $10,000 in 2026.

Just looking at the player's draft profile it can be seen why this big space eater would be of some interest to the team. Looking at the NT position for sure there is going to be some fierce competition for the back up spot after Hankins.

The team now has 4 BIG GUYS as prospects for the roster at NT in Bohanna @355, Rogers @338, Hankins @335, and Pili @334. it will be interesting to watch this competition in camp. Hankins will undoubtedly be kept but after him. this size pattern is similar to what size NTs have been in Baltimore recently.

I have always thought Hankins was good and suspect the team is having a hard look at the other 3. Rogers to me is intriguing. The team kept Bohanna and Pili around so they have some interest to see growth in their abilities. The others are UDFA types that may just be diamonds in the rough but they don't match the big guy mold.

Thanks kidhawk!!!

Suspect Kaufman is camp fodder as the team will more likely make Martinez RB3.

Here's a draft profile for Kaufman who was a FS and KR in college:

Updated.
With McIntosh out, Kaufman very well could factor into the kick return competition. After returning kicks sporadically for most of his college career, Kaufman thrived in that role last season at NC State, gaining 469 yards on 15 returns, good for an average of 31.3 yards per return, which ranked fourth in the nation among players with at least 10 returns.
