He did. But he had an usually good college OL, with two NFL tackles, one likely to go in the first round. He also had three NFL WRs and an NFL TE. Odunze may go top five and he was target #1. Westover was like a magician out there. Penix would sometimes throw perfect passes. He was great in the Sugar Bowl. But there were nights when it was all he could do to get the ball in the vicinity of his receivers and they did the rest.
He had a great coach and OC who knew how to support him and how to scheme for him. It wasn't an NFL offense. I think the most concerning thing about Penix, other than the injury history, is how he played on those occasions when faced with real pressure in the pocket. That's when his game broke down. That's also what he'll have to routinely face in the NFL, where the guys on the DL are monsters and pass protection doesn't consistently hold up. Penix was hardly ever pressured the last two years.
