That fumble had so little to do with the loss. There are dozens of reasons for the loss. When there are dozens of reasons for a loss...especially when we dominated the turnover category and they were missing several stars, and they couldn't make field goals...it's a coaching issue. No other way to look at it. There's going to be mistakes by players; take those mistakes out of the equation and you're still left with "reasons" for the loss. Who else is left to blame? It's the coach. I was very hopeful and still am to a degree, but make no mistake, Mike and his staff had a lot to do with this loss.
JSN's fumble had just as much to do with the loss. Both teams had 2 bad turnovers.

I disagree 💯 with you on this.

Schneider made a great move going after MM. Shut down these new West Coast offensive systems and then implement your own. I'm personally going to have patience extending beyond week one of his second season . There will be rocky stretches along the way .

Defense wins championships .
Football 101. Build up your trenches first, and defense wins championships.

Well, that’s too damn bad. You’re the head coach. Your job is to manage time appropriately. Your job is to hold your coordinators accountable. Your job is to be proactive, not reactive with an obvious weak leak in the coaching chain.
I'm reminded of what the great Chuck Knox once said about head coaches in the NFL. To paraphrase, it went something like this:

I've seen teams with an offensive coordinator in charge of the offense, a defensive coordinator in charge of the defense, a special teams coach in charge of special teams, and a head coach who wasn't in charge of anything."

One of a head coaches' primary jobs on game day is managing the game. He makes the critical go-for-it, punt, call timeout, and challenge a call decisions. To be fair, he has a lot of people in his ear giving him advice, but when the day is done, the buck stops with him.

When Holmgren was our head coach, I sincerely felt that he should have given up his play calling duties because IMO it caused him to lose track of the overall game situation. It also gave his defense the impression that he was aloof and detached. He didn't spend any time with talking with his defense because when they were on the bench, he had his nose buried deep into that Denny's menu. I took a lot of heat for my take. There's a ton of very successful coaches, including HOF caliber guys like Andy Reid, that call their own plays. Perhaps it's from my own experience as a manager, ie the dangers of micromanaging, but that's how I feel.

I've stated in other threads my extreme displeasure with Mac's decision down by 2 with 3.5 minutes left in the game and the ball at the opponent's 19, 4th and 1, to take the FG and not even attempting to pull the defense offside. Those types of coaching mistakes are unforgivable.

That lack of confidence in his offense not to be able to gain one yard has to have an effect on those players. Mac can stand up in his presser and claim that his coaches and players all have each other's back all he wants. It's nothing but lip service from a coach defending himself after a tough loss. I seriously think that he stands a chance of losing the locker room over decisions like that one.

There's also stuff like continuing to trot Woolen out there when everybody and their dog can see that he's a huge liability.

I'm not ready to advocate firing Mac, not even close. But nor am I giving him a blank check for 3 years as some of my friends in here are. We'll see how the rest of this season plays out. But I am not at all impressed with what I've seen to this point. I expect more. A lot more.

Yep. All I heard in the off season was how much the special teams suck. The special teams kept us in that game.

Well for my part, my worry was more for Punt-return (by the opposing team) coverage as well as Kickoff return coverage.

Everything else I had no issue with.

But I agree that Special teams were indeed special.

It just sucked that Kubiak made it so it made no difference in the end.

Now watch. We are going to get it together against the Steelers but Special Teams will fail us next time. (you know that's what will happen 'cause....Seahawks)

If we were going to replace Pete, putting in another Defensive HC made no sense. When you make a change like that, you gain very little. They should have waited a year and made a run at Ben Johnson, or looked at another hot OC who could transform the offense. MM is the wrong HC for this team, and eventually when we fire him, we should give Schneider his walking papers too. Start fresh.
Ehh ..
You can end up with someone like the Dolphins coach... I'm good with Mac

Definitely takes a pair to throw this out there so soon. If MM doesn't turn it around by mid-season, Jerhawk won't be the only one.

I could excuse the hiring of Ryan Grubb last year. Coach Mac and Schneider wanted to find a creative way to utilize Metcalf, Lockett and JSN, and they thought after Grubb’s success at UW with Penix, maybe this would be the guy to jettison Geno up to the elite category of QBs.
He hired Grubb because once he got the HC job it was so far into the offseason coaching carousel that he had few options, so he took a gamble and it didn't pan out.
Why Klint Kubiak? Was it because he’d actually fall in line and be more of a yes man, as opposed to the dancing on tables shenanigans of Grubb?
Kubiak has had some decent success in SF, MN & NO.
Therefore, I’m left with no choice but to throw out this truth bomb that apparently only I can see and call for the firing of Mike Macdonald, simply because of his inability to find a competent offensive coordinator. This is an offensive league, and he’s allowed that side of the ball to go to hell. I won’t stand for it!
You mean MM is guilty of the same thing PC was for several years while in the PNW? The horror!

Alright, I’ll be completely serious with this post.

I want to be wrong. This thread, I mostly created it with a tongue in cheek, satirical sort of style to it. The loss was frustrating, so I was hoping to give some of you guys a chuckle reading the OP. That’s my sense of humor, and if it got a few of you to giggle, then that’s what I was going for.

And I sincerely want Mike to succeed. He does seem like a really good dude, down to earth and hyper intelligent. I firmly believe that this will be a top 5 defense this season, health dependent.

It’s the offense that concerns me, however we (yes, me) need to be patient. New scheme, new QB. There will be growing pains.

I hope that the Seahawks go out and kick the Stealers ass on Sunday. And I hope coach gets this team to the post season.

What we really need is the obvious: Control TOP, continue to pressure the QB, and take advantage of opportunities. Last week was a missed opportunity. That can’t happen again. Let’s keep building this thing.

Let’s go coach Mac!

(I still think he’s a handsome guy btw)

I didn't take your OP as tongue in cheek. You titled it the "Premature" fire Macdonald thread, which indicated to me that you were just semi serious.

The discussion should be taking place. I'm not endorsing Macdonald as HC for any longer than this season, less than that if he loses the team as Jim Mora did in 2009 or pulls a stunt ala Urban Meyer and Jon Gruden. Macdonald, like all players and coaches of my favorite team, has to earn my respect and support. I was cautiously optimistic after last season and the moves we made in the offseason, but this first game has knocked me back a step or two.

I'm all about the team and much less about individual players and coaches except as it relates to the team. I've been a Seahawk fan from the get-go. I'll root for Macdonald as fiercely as I did Pete, Holmgren, Knox, et al. Now, let's kick some ass this Sunday and I'll be all smiles again.
