Do people here know like in general the job of a strong safety is?

‘Specially in this scheme?

One would hope so by now after enjoying the recent multi-year clinic Kam Chancellor put on.

Kam Chancellor, who had great instincts, crushed the run and swatted down passes. He had linebacker size and the length to close and swat down passes. Adams is not quite as big or long but he's got some extra range and great instincts to get a jump with play recognition. Adams utilizes his excellent range and instincts to bring something extra in attacking the football. He'll bring his own unique style to the position as have all who excelled at strong safety.

Some once objected vigorously to Kam's contract extension. So it isn't surprising to hear, once again, objections to Jamal's extension. My guess is that those who object so vigorously probably don't fully understand the position or why Kam and Jamal are such valuable Seahawk fits.

But for those that struggle at understanding the game, there are more than enough national stat and media sites offering rankings and such to give them some entertaining structure for their enjoyment. It's a short cut alternative for enriching water cooler chatter, texting back and forth ect......ect. while providing some sense of an entertainment experience. But, such coverage doesn't really touch on what they often refer to as intangibles. They rarely address the unique value of an exceptional cultural building difference maker at strong safety. Fortunately, local media sometimes address what the national media ignores. But, not everybody bothers to listen in.

It's just part of the make up of league wide babble among football fans. :229031_shrug:

Speaking of statistically indirect internet babble, some might find the following tweet entertaining ...

........................... the 2020 jump in man coverage caught my eye given the historic preference for cover 3 during the Carroll era. It will be interesting to see where the man verses zone coverage ratio settles in at during Adam's second year. Clearly, they are looking at Adams as a core player to build around.

On a side note ..................... I would welcome a contract extension for free safety play maker Quandre Diggs. Diggs also fits nicely into Carroll's secondary scheme.

Diggs is a guy I worry about and how to keep him, he’s the jelly to the peanut butter of Adams

Adams is great, but these numbers seem a bit deceiving.

The Seahawks were on a historically bad defense for the first half of the season, where Adams was part of that for 5 games, but he also missed 4 of those games. Missing those games makes the stats look more favorable.

When Adams returned in the 2nd half of the season, the Seahawks acquired Dunlap, and played the final 7 games against these guys:
