Sign a veteran center ASAP. Doesn't matter who. Get them some snaps.
I played Center in High School. I'd even sign for League minimum.

DT depth is fine since Collier and Green can shift inside to 3T on passing downs.
Cuz Collier and Green are proven studs....

Hopefully something like this unless better talent becomes available:

LB KJ ($2.5M)
LB Irvin ($1.5M)
DT Atkins ($2M)
C Reiter ($2.5M)

CB is one of the bigger needs, but Sherman is probably at Betty Ford, and Dunbar just got released for a reason after signing a near vet minimum deal.

Atkins is old now and well past his stud years. And it's a pipe dream to think he wants to play here for peanuts. He played 8 games last year and registered 1 tackle. Collier can probably out play him and is more likely to stay healthy.

And we have Hyder whom I also forgot could slip inside.

Dunlap didn't look that good on the same team though.

I would take Atkins if he would do a prove-it deal.

It would make little sense not to.

There is a mutual benefit to extensions in the NFL, and as a result teams almost always extend players who they want to keep. If you look at the Seahawks in particular, we have only kept one player at a high dollar price without extending them first, and that was KJ Wright last season. If we do not work out an extension with Brown now then he will probably be playing on another team next year.

I expect the Seahawks are favorable to an extension but the unknown is what Brown is asking for. It is possible that he thinks there's still one more big contract out there for him due to his play last season along with Whitworth's ability to play into his 40s. He could be right, but the Hawks offense is already very top heavy in spending and I could see them hesitating on Brown given Metcalf's upcoming payday.

Yeah he's obviously past his prime, but there's still a small glimmer of hope since he was playing through injury stemming from training camp last year, and only had about 100 snaps. May be a useful rotational piece if he can stay healthy at a couple million cap hit.

there were several factors in play that undeniably inhibited him from performing at a high level.

The biggest of which being the shoulder injury he suffered in training camp last year, later revealed to be a torn rotator cuff. Atkins attempted to play through it but was eventually placed on injured reserve in mid-December.

Along with that, the Bengals made a very clear shift towards a youth movement. It's what partly led to Carlos Dunlap's frustrations and eventual trade to Seattle.

In the games he did play last year, Atkins never eclipsed 20 snaps. Dunlap, on the other hand, started the season on a more normal slate of snaps but quickly saw that dwindle well into the mid-to-low 20s before his exit. Mostly ineffective through the first half of the season, Dunlap appeared re-energized by his new home and registered 5.0 sacks for the Seahawks.

It's hard not to wonder if a change of scenery would do the same for Atkins. After all, in his last healthy season, he recorded 4.5 sacks on 20 pressures and added 47 tackles.

Those numbers, of course, pale in comparison to what he's done for most of his career, indicating a decline in play. Coming off a serious injury as well, it's unrealistic to expect Atkins to be the same player who's accumulated three All-Pro selections and played for eight Pro Bowl teams.

But the Seahawks don't need him to lead the charge and play extensive snaps. They just need better depth. As a rotational piece, Atkins should still be more than capable of producing at a high level relative to his limited role.

Theoretically speaking, he can help make up for some of the interior pass rush potential that was lost with the departure of Jarran Reed, and give the Seahawks a more stable presence against the run when Woods and Ford need a breather.

DT, OC and CB not necessarily in that order. The names I've heard in Atkins and Rieter would be good adds for the first two spots. CB would probably have to be a trade. Who knows.

I agree that DT depth is fine, but disagree that Atkins is finished. The Bengals line was in an extremely awkward position as Anarumo was, on the fly, converting to a 3-4 week-by-week. Atkins still has a great first step, he was just phased out - just like Dunlap was. He's got something left.

I think people should probably understand that, in the bear front, the big end is essentially functioning as a defensive tackle, lining up at the 3/4 techniques as I understand it. It changes the outlook of the interior defensive line considerably.

Whie strengthening the CB position is needed but better quality on DL can help mask the CB weakness. It's far easier to get a DL than CB. Atkins, Short, Casey are all out there and each are upgrade over what the Seahawks currently have on interior (qualifty wise). The Giants lived off strong DL and avg to weak secondary for years. Tampa Bay last season was stronger upfront than in their secondary.

Extending Brown would lower his number not increase it, this is salary cap 101, Jesus.

They need a real Center. They haven't had a good Center since 2014. Embarrassing. Trade a draft pick mid year, like they did for Dunlap & Diggs, trading now would be too expensive. Will have to be patient here.

Corner needs upgrading, but the scheme is trash so it doesn't really matter who they get, they will get roasted on 3rd down after 3rd down. They telegraph every thing they do, they have very little understanding of masking coverage. The bigger upgrade would be kicking Norton to the curb, and Pete be more hands off, focusing on management. Instead, Pete is going to have to babysit his DC.
