The O is great; D Bad

The defense was significantly closer to great than bad. For starters, the Lions averaged 33 ppg at home last season. They have one of the best offenses in football. And while they battled injuries, so did we. It's also worth noting that Vaitai and Montgomery only missed their final two drives—they still scored 10 points.

Considering Witherspoon got picked on early and recovered, I'm feeling pretty damn good about our defense. We just need to learn how to tackle tightends and stop hitting QBs five seconds after they've gotten rid of the ball.

The defense might not be great but it appears that they are playing faster and hitting harder. I think they will improve.

We got sum dogs.

Process my arse...the D overall played well against a very good offense. It's wWeek 2 of the season. Show me any coach in sports that says "Results don't matter, it's the process that counts". Sorry...it's a dumb perspective.
Polish that turd.

They are one of the worst ranked defenses in the league and struggle to get off the field on 3rd down.

The scheme is the lead proponent of this. They have a lot of talent. Should be middle of the pack at worst.

If they play more aggressive, rather than sitting back in a soft shell good things will happen.

Because there is an agenda. Statements have been made and the point of no return reached in thier mind. Normal, logical discussiions are out the window.
The Seahawks rank as one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Why is that?

It's two games. Sample size too small. We played a Rams team that always has our number even in down years and a Lions team with a top 5 NFL offence. Lets give em some get right weeks against Carolina and Arizona to see how they hold up.

And Nacua caught 15 passes for the Rams against the Niners. Kid is legit.

I’m excited to see what Witherspoon can do, he can definitely move the needle for the defense in a big way.
Witherspoon helps coverage and Adams helps multiple ways, including pass rush. My dream is that both are healthy and playing well going into the playoffs.

Yds allowed after 2 games? Because they played 2 very good offenses. The lambs gave the 9ers a run for their $$ yesterday, and the lions beat the reigning SB champs. If you want to tell me the hawks need more pressure from the Dline, I'd sign up for that. But to say it's the "process" is a copout. And this non-sense argument of "you are just focusing on the results" is moronic. Go ahead mods, delete this and flog me if you want, but that is what it is. What matters is W's & L's. I don't see teams with better records not making the playoffs because "Well, they could have made it but their low process beautification score allowed teams with less wins to get it". Or a winning QB saying at the end of the game "Man, that was an ugly win and it really bothers me because the process is what really matters most."

Sometimes I think Hawk fans watch only Hawk games in a vacuum, and don't see what's going on all over the league year to year.

Outside of the elite defenses like the Niners, Eagles and Cowboys this year? You're seeing a LOT of wide open receivers and long runs, etc. It's not just us. Hell, even the Niners, Eagles and Cowboys gave up a bunch of offense this past weekend.

Not excusing last week's Rams performance at all btw. That was a soft ass putrid defensive performance. But this week was much better, especially from a physicality, aggressiveness and playmaking stand point.

Still not great, or even good for long stretches of series. But silver lining take? Improvement going forward, against a very good offense in a VERY hostile environment.

I think it's fair to critique the D even though they played well at times. Some of the same vulnerabilities continue to exist up the middle and across the short middle. It was distinctly to the Hawks advantage that Mongomery who was running well against our team was nicked up and had to leave the game. Frankly truly disliked the reality the D allowed them to force OT.

Detroit has a very good O and a good QB despite contrary views of some. Goff is quite an accurate passer. My sense watching was the Lions D was solid against our running game but less so against our short passing game. Our D had few moments of incredibly weak coverage and allowed some very quick relies to hard won touchdowns by Geno and the O. All in all there was improvement some key stops and the Hawks won the turn over battle; but I'm still not happy with the overall performance of the D and there is lots to improve upon. It was a huge step forward from week 1.

Pretty much agree.

Enjoyed seeing the rookie nose tackle #93 Cam Young enter the game. He really wasn't challenged by Detroit's run game much though, as they were in passing mode by that time. Any thoughts on his performance?

He was noticeable and that is a good thing. He like several other key defensive players has been nicked up early and mostly invisible. I liked what I saw from Witherspoon too. Other than Nwosu though the edge rush has ben unimpressive.

Thank you for a rational and objective POV. Agree across the board. We need to improve the pass rush. I love Bobby, but he is a step slower in coverage. Loved most of what I saw from Spoon...he was tight on coverage much of the game and showed his instincts.

I didnt watch yesterdays game, but I definitely wouldnt consider the defense as good. They did give up over 400 yards. I feel they'll improve though. I'll take average at this point.

Ditto for the O. 12 yds in the 2nd 1/2 last week, but showed dramatic improvement this week.

Gotta love the fight in week 2. Maybe they read too many post on .net and it went to their head. The critical thing is how they respond from there...so far, so good.
