I watched the half-time show, and it is 20 minutes of my life, I will never get back. With the national anthem, I play along with my Glockenspiel, and I was waiting for the artist to catch up, not the other way round.

I recalled witnessing a female artist ruining God Save the King at a London game.

I have been waiting for either Metallica or Lynyrd Skynyrd to play at a Superbowl but I am pretty sure that will never happen

It seems like the opening band ( Greenday) blew them off stage

I don't know how somebody could be offended by that HT show or think it at the least wasn't entertaining.
I'm not offended by it, but for me it certainly wasn't entertaining. I have seen many SB HT shows and some of them actually moved me. I enjoy music and it is much more enjoyable if it at least has songs I recognized....or at least understand what they are singing. Yes, I understand BB is popular in some demographics, but I doubt he is popular in the demographic that watch NFL football....many I'm wrong 🤷‍♂️. It just seems to me that there are many more artist to select from that can better connect with the target audience. The HT show did absolutely nothing for me....and that is ok.

You know as well as anyone that the Super Bowl is the ONE game of the year where there's parties full of people of all demographics watching. Having the most popular artist in the world is a no brainer.

The SB parties take place no matter who is singing. BB's top streaming countries are Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Guatemala. In the US, he is only ranked #9 in popularity. As I said, having BB did not bother me, but the HT show did nothing for me...not even the slightest enjoyment...and I would bet there are a significant number of viewers that felt the same. Those that enjoyed the show, I say great for them. Super glad they enjoyed it. In the past, the entertainers have been artists that pretty much all fans recognize or recognized some of their songs...even if it wasn't a genre they normally listen to. This year the NFL seemed to intentionally disenfranchise a large portion of their viewers.

i don't think they're trying to disenfranchise long-term fans. They simply know they have us hooked. It's all about expanding the market.
Also, maybe their market research team actually does their job. Because, based on this thread, the other one that got deleted, and pretty much all of the stuff I read online, their main demographic "doesn't watch the halftime show and haven't watched it for years" anyway. Unless they're lying.

I guess the question I would ask is many other performers like who? ... And why? There have been 60 SBs and in all that time, in a country that used to pride itself as being a cultural melting pot, people flip out (not saying you flipped out) because ONE time, 1 time ...in however long the NFL has been putting on halftime shows we have a performer that performs in a different language? Why are Garth Brooks, Jays, Aerosmith (as examples), more appropriate than BB? He is from Puerto Rico, not Mars.

There have been quite a few Halftime performances that didn't appeal to me and I am sure didn't appeal to large swaths of the public, but there wasn't some national dialogue about the appropriateness of the show or performer. And I watched anyway. Didn't bother me because America is more than one narrow slice of culture I might spend the majority of my time in. 'We', not 'Me'...

Its music. I don't know the lyrics to better than half the songs I like listening to and 99% of them are in English. Some of my favorite songs all time are in Italian - I don't speak Italian. It's just good music. You don't have to sing the song to enjoy the sound.

But that's just me. To each their own.

And that is 100% cool. But when in the history of Super Bowls was it made such a divisive issue that there was an 'alternate' show for people to tune into with 'real' American artists?

It is impossible to make everyone happy. Doesn't matter if it's BB, Snoop Dog, Cody Johnson, or U2.

Killed by the numbers, but had a captive audience many of who were doing other things while the TV was just left on in the background. I think most people didn’t give a shit about either show and most people actually watching something during halftime were tuned into puppies doing funny shit.

I was the only non-Hispanic at the Super Bowl party that I attended. We had two rooms with TV's, one with the broadcast in Spanish, the other in English. Not being able to speak Spanish, I had no idea what Bad Bunny was saying, but a friend told me that BB's Spanish was pretty sketchy, that he wasn't really clear. I got the impression that the other participants were Lukewarm about his performance, not paying a lot of attention to him, at least from those of us that were watching the English broadcast.

As far as the decision to include him in the halftime performance, I personally don't care one way or the other. Due to generational differences, I haven't watched a halftime show with any kind of interest whatsoever in 20 years as they usually include rap and hip-hop, music genres that I can't stand. But I see what the league is trying to do, ie expand their audience to include more Hispanics.

I didn't care that Bad Bunny was doing the halftime show, so my wife and I watched it. Honestly, we both thought it sucked. And not because it was in spanish, I just thought the music itself was not good. But, whatever.
