Let’s discuss this.

AWFUL play call.

Can anyone explain to me why you would go shotgun hand off just to pick up half a yard?!

No finger pointing here. Just burn that damn play from your playbook PLEASE.

I was like: Where the F is the backup fullback. Either tush push or try and smash through. Anything but the shotgun run. ANYTHING.

KK has these brain fart moments. And the run game is currently sucking. MM said as much on Brock and Salk on Monday.

Yelling at the TV was done :)

MM was asked about that play. He said they will discuss it internally and stick with the Barnyard from the sounds of it.

K9 wasn't following BRussel like he did Outz...maybe a trust thing or maybe just different skill level at clearing space. K9 and Charbs have different skillsets but using them with specific plays only telegraphs to the D. Obviously 4th and 1 is a special situation. My point is, though, that the rungame, as a whole, requires more planning/set-up/adjustment than just the obvious. I think Charbs health and the change in FB required a lot of adjustment...more than anticipated. "Next man up" is great when it's great, but reality is those things require adjustment and both KK and the (young/new mix) OL are still figuring stuff out. Fortunate that the passgame and D picked up the slack. The measly yds/carry so far this season probably won't suffice throughout. However, the number of pass attempts is the way to fix it. It'll improve or It'll be the focus next off-season.

Agreed. Plus why do they continually try to run Charbonnet outside? He loses yards on that play due to his lack of speed. 9/10 times they run it, they lost yards on that play. Stop forcing it.
and Walker would go 5 yards backwards on the same play

It was inexcusable NOT to run the tight end push there. I was shocked when we didn't line up in that formation. And getting stuffed like that gave me serious PTSD. One of many head scratchers last night. To his credit, MM admitted he screwed up on that one. I don't think he makes that mistake again. Then again, he keeps allowing Woolen back on the field.

Macdonald spoke on this in his press conference today. Obviously he said we had to do better but he seemed to be saying that they thought the distance to go was more than it actually was and blamed himself.

With that said even though he took responsibility I got the feeling he will be speaking with others and getting this right.

To be fair, no inside runs are going to look good when the left guard is being driven into the backfield as much as Zabel was on this play. Those kind of learning moments happen to rookies when opposing NFL vets ramp it up in key situations.

In 10 months Zabel has gone from playing Mercer and Abilene Christian in the playoffs to getting bull rushed by Dalvin Tomlinson.

Totally agree.

On the play 76 gets hands to his face from the cardinal defender. That’s what blew up the direction of the run entirely and caused Charbs to kick out. Without that uncalled penalty and 76 getting a fair shot at his guy Seattle converts.
