I still think throwing was not a bad idea in that situation. But the play itself was an awful choice. Everyone is expecting Lynch to get the ball, and you have a mobile QB. I still say the passing play should have been play action, have Russ roll. If the Pats D really crashes inside he can probably run it in. Or you have a TE leak out to the flat / corner. If neither option is there, throw it away and live to fight 3rd and 4th down with a TO in your back pocket so you could run twice.

You can’t honestly believe this. You can hate Wilson all you want and still realize this is wrong.
Granted all might be off some, I just knew when DB didn't take blame
and Pete was being goofy over it and taking the blame when he doesn't
call the offense that something with Me3 happened.
Pete liked to protect him from being criticized, we all know that and it
didn't work too well in the end.

Lynch already confirmed in an interview the play that was called was the one they ran, no audible. He's the last person on earth who would lie about that.

Kessler is right. It would have actually worked had the ball been thrown in the correct spot. It's also possible that Lockette was a split second late since he kind of DK'd the route, but it was thrown high which was one of Wilson's bad habits.

I think this is when your coaches need to call the best play to the best player. Bevell said Lockette had the hot hand that game, but in those situations you go with your bread n butter, which is not a quick timing route to your #5 receiver with a QB who doesn't excel at quick timing routes. Wilson screwed up, but if the coaches wanted a throw they should have rolled him out and let him do what he did best.
He probably couldn’t see when he through it…

Because Malcolm could not have made the play if the ball was placed correctly. It would have been defensive PI because utler would have had to run through RL to get the ball. Wilson threw it where it could be contested. You NEVER do that on that particular route. Like i said, Brian Walters who played for us, lives in the area, is a hardcore Hawks Fan and is friends with Russ said as much. Its obvious.
Short QBs…. Smh

Im just going to say a lot of very smart football minds watching that play (including many in the league) view the throw as the least consequential of that play. The missed block by Kearse, the route by Lockete, the playcall by Bevell, the personnel you had in for that play etc.

If Kearse even slows his guy down it’s a touchdown with that exact throw. If Lockette runs a tighter route with that throw it’s a touchdown. Knowing that how can we say it’s ALL the throw? You can’t unless you’re biased against Russ.

Brock a QB wouldn’t say that play was mostly Wilson’s fault and he’s know Russ supporter.
It may not be 100% on the QB but it's definitely over 50%. There's more than just Ricardo out on that field to throw to. It looked too busy around the LOS to release that throw.

Maybe, yeah, he didn't win the game, but it's not why we lost.

I'd say, we lost it after the Baldwin poop celebration penalty and penalized on the ensuing kick off, which gave NE great field position and the Seahawks who were rolling offensively, lost all momentum.

Actually this was a big turning point i remember as well.Kearse dropping yet another pass on a critical 3rd down was the other. Only play Baldwin made that ever pissed me off.

That being said any play drawn up to go to a very underwhelming wr in Lockette was a recipe for disaster. Why not Baldwin in that situation. Of course the ball would had to be thrown more accurately and Kearse needed to jam his guy a bit.

Imagine if they had won. Chris Matthews would of had millions but disappeared the following year.

Tell me how you would slow Browner down, I will wait................... Especially since he recognized the play.

I think if Russ changed the play in the huddle Sherman would of said it by now and shit on him for eternity for doing so. I still think they just tried to get cute and get Russ an mvp. He always seemed more concerned with the individual accolades and Pete unfortunately had to massage that ego at the wrong time...

Haha.. I've always thought, that after Kearse's miricile catch, that if he didn't try to get up.. and just rolled, he would have had a TD.

Even with all those factors you claim were the real reason for failure, the simple fact remains that if Russ puts that ball low and on the body we are back to back SB champs. Plain and simple. Complaining about not running... would be moot if the pass was complete and we win. Calling a pass would have been viewed as brilliant had the throw been better. Everything about that last play that has been microanalyzed and hyper-critiqued never matters if the ball is put where its supposed to have been. Browner beating the pick doesnt matter. Butler breaking inside doesnt matter. Its not as if the play was so wrong that it was destined to fail. It would have succeeded with the ball put in the right spot.

A better ball and none of it matters.

Basing what Brandon Mebane said, he just affirmed that Russell Wilson DID NOT change the play. Here is why:

  1. Ear pieces and who knew what play was called,

In the NFL, the quarterback and a defensive player usually wear headsets to listen to play calls. The quarterback wears the headset on offense, while the defensive player is usually the middle linebacker or a safety.

    Explanation
    • The headsets are one-way communication devices, so players can't talk back to the coaches.
    • The helmets of players wearing headsets have a green dot to indicate to referees that they are using communication devices.
    • The radio frequency cuts off after 15 seconds, so coaches need to be quick to get the play in.
    • If a player needs clarification, they can use hand signals to ask for the instructions to be repeated.
  2. A play called by HC or OC was transmitted to the QB and ONLY the QB knew what was called. He then relays what's called to the players on the field when they hurdled. PLAYERS ON THE FIELD OTHER THAN QB COULD NOT KNOW WHAT PLAY WAS CALLED BY THE COACH. They only knew what the QB told them.

  3. From his earpiece, TJax knew what was called and he immediately had a bad feeling.
"So Tarvaris Jackson — I’m kind of not near him, but I can see him — has an earpiece in his ear, and they call the play. Tavaris Jackson says, ‘Nooo! Don’t run that play.’ He turns his back and walks up the sideline away from the play. And I’m like, ‘Where is he going, and why did he say don’t run that play?’ But he said don’t run that play. He walks back, and then they ran the play. And you know what happened after that.”

  4. If Wilson changed the play in the hurdle, TJax couldn't have known that Wilson changed it until he saw the execution.

Kearse needed to get off his block and didn’t. But this adds to my point that it’s not all Wilson’s fault.

If Kearse does his job we win a SB, we also dropped a wide open 3rd down on a dime by Wilson earlier that seals it too. If Lockett doesn’t round his route and is more aggressive we win. If we call that exact same play and Doug is the primary we win the SB. You want to blame Russ when in reality he’s nowhere near the top of the list.

And if we had drafted Brett Favre instead of Dan Mcgwuire in 1991, there is no Holmgren, Pete Carrol, Russell Wilson or LOB.

But that, and your statment, has zero to do with, even after everything that happened, the game coming down to one play and us failing. The reason football is 60 minutes and not one play by each side for all the marbles is because its a competition. Move, counter move, successes, failures and overcoming failures to see who can make enough right moves and score more points by double 00 on the clock.

We overcame everything else that happened and then gave the game away. We should have overcome Butler and Browner, we called a play that shoukd have worked.

But we threw the ball to the wrong spot.

History.
