Thought we would just restructure his contract with additional years, and trade Earl Thomas. Hurts with getting some day 2 picks to load up with new talent.

As for Sherman he was a warrior for, and I wish him well.

No way of ANY of us knowing how the team views Sherm and Bennett. I'm not saying that is it for sure, but there is a strong possibility that their act was wearing thin. And, regardless, it's a possibility. Just as it's a possibility that this is all $ driven decision making. I'll miss Bennett, but I'm not all broken up about it at all. Will be pretty bummed if Sherm leaves. He's an all time great Hawks player, and flat out changed this team. I'll always appreciate that.
Got pretty tired of his anger in recent years etc. but in no way do I want him gone.

Love both this and the Bennett deal. Frankly, both of these should have taken place this time last year to capitalize on more return.

This is a business, people tend to forget about that.

Let's get worse! Let's get worse!

Lets let all the players stay under contract until' they are 35!

Get real.

If this is true about Sherm, it’s an idiotic move. You don’t get better by getting rid of your best players.
Looks like JS and PC are way too confident in their “abilitys”. You are creating a HUGE whole in a team that has more holes than you can would like to have. This move (if true) will burn this team for years.

Welcome to 8-8 for the foreseeable future if true.

Bennet is old and getting older

Sherman had a late season achilles injury, is on 11 mil and may not even be ready for the season

This IS, unfortunately, how you get better in this league. Pats have been doing it for years.

What the Hawks do with the cap space and picks is what will determine their future at this point.

But hanging on to guys who are past or passing their prime is a business move worth taking.
Disagree on the Sherm part. On MB I agree. They took 1 step forward by 86’ing those who names I won’t mention on the offensive coaching staff, and 2 giant steps backwards if the Sherm being gone is true.

I'm fine with it. I'm honestly getting tired of players who are above the team. I also know that win forever isn't exactly going to happen by paying all these players who have already hit/passed their prime.

What is the point of a rebuild?

Carroll has at most 3-4 years left as a coach.

So rebuild for 1-2 years and then lose the coach to start from zero?

Have you seen the coaches Carroll leaves in place as his succession plan? Ask USC

The idea this team can retool with new players is laughable anyway. Carroll is a tremendous scout and talent development guy but he is a pretty middling X & Os guy. And he has tremendously spotty record in being able to identify good assistants.

So if you get rid of the players what the hell do you even have?

This team needed to milk its stars for all they were worth because there is no reload on the horizon, just a return to the type of football that most Seahawk fans were hoping never returned. Wilson isn't going to carry this team on his back, he needs help.

You don't help him by gutting your defense when your offense is a joke. Or hiring a re-tread never-was/never-will-be as your OC.

I give up.

Maybe Sherman deserves better than whatever this team is becoming but the fans sure as hell don't deserve this.
You realize Pete and John found most of our current talent don't You? Yes, other stars can be found. It's not bottom of the barrell if these stars move on.

If traded, could Sherman even pass a physical? Likely not.

You can get past that part of the trade clause by making it for a future pick and only if Sherman makes the Roster.

Has Seattle ever had a fan favorite like him? He should have played his whole career here.

If this is a cut instead of a trade, I'm done with this FO.
Must be a 2012 Twelve. :smilingalien: :D :2thumbs:

Steve Largent
Cortez Kennedy
Kenny Easley
Walter Jones *yeah a linemen but he was great
Shaun Alexander

I'd say at least two of those guys were as loved by Seahawks fans. You young whippersnappers just don't appreciate the olden days.

Whiner fans talking trash. That's when you know things have gone sideways.

But, he is correct.

We went through the same thing last off-season , so I’m not getting too worked up yet.

Being said, I’d be fine with parting ways. The rules (enforcement) have really changed to the detriment of Sherman’s game. He is a press corner in a league that is trying to eliminate press coverage. Yes, he has an eye for setting just the right angle to bait the QB into passing it into his zone, but he doesn’t really have the step, anymore, to make the move on the ball once it is thrown. We still see the occasional old Sherman pop out, but it’s getting rarer and rarer. Maybe he will be back to his old form with repaired Achilles’, maybe he won’t.

Personally, I think this is all just positioning by Sherman and the Hawks. Neither wants the other to know if they are committed to working out a deal. I still think Sherman hasn’t recovered from “The Pass,” but the source of his angst is gone. I would love to see him back on a prove it deal. If he demands top dollar, then sayonara. We will do fine with Shaq as our #1, and whatever scrub FA/ draft pick we replace Sherman with, as long as we have Thomas over the top.

Hopefully that Sherman replacement is Maxwell. I can’t imagine there will be a demand for his services anywhere else.

And yes, I’m aware that he is under contract for another year. My prove it statement is that I think we need to restructure his contract, with a prove it year next year, or cut him.

'You realize Pete and John found most of our current talent don't You? Yes, other stars can be found. It's not bottom of the barrell if these stars move on.'

HAHAHAHA

....No

Pete and John very likely found nothing. It was the guy that loaded the 49ers roster with All-Pros and then came here and did the same thing. Scott. As soon as Scott moved on, suddenly Pete and John got very ordinary at finding great players. I think Clark is the only real difference maker they found since then, and he isn't even consistent. Not a stellar record.

You want to know why we haven't been able to replace the success of those drafts? Because the synergy that existed in how JS and Scott and Pete evaluated talent is now gone. Without Scott they suck at it. So there is no reloading because they have no idea how to replace the talent.

Last year we got some good contributors in some positions. But more likely average players than stars and that was one of our better drafts in years.

Don't expect much from JS. That guy rode the success of the drafts that primarily happened while Scott was here and never repeated once he left. There is no reason to expect much will change.

Lol at the Pete and John had nothing to do with selecting those players argument. We have NO idea what the process for selecting most of those players was in terms of who found them and advocated for drafting them. In fact, wasn't John the one who wanted to take Russ in the second and Pete made him wait til the third?

So entertaining. Pete and John have nothing to do with the success of the Hawks? Now I've heard it all :snack:
