What are the good to great players we have picked up since Scott left?

Any All Pros? Even close?

Maybe Lockett when he was healthy.

You really just ok with 4 years of barely serviceable drafting and all you have to show for it is Lockett and Clark?

Those are your superstars that are going to take us to the next victory in the playoffs? Really?

Who else?

I am saddened that Sherm may be leaving. I think he has lost a step but he gave this team character along with Lynch. Man those were good times. What the heck happened that we brought in those guys (along with Russell and wags) and now we get joeckel and ifedi and Eddie L? Wow that’s a 180.

First off, McCloughan was very involved in the 2014 draft, so it's 3 years without him, not 4.

You mentioned Lockett and Clark. Reed was a good pick in 2016, but you're right that the 2016 draft was pretty bad overall.

It's a little early to tell for 2017's draft, but Pocic, Griffin, Jones, and Carson all look like solid picks who will contribute heavily this year.

2010–2012 was probably one of the best draft runs in NFL history. You can't base success against that. We'll likely never see any draft class come close to that run again in Seattle, even if McCloughlan was still in Seattle. If you can find 3-5 solid contributors in the draft each year it is a success, and the Hawks did that last year.

We get it Scott, you're kind of a big deal. Cheers.

What is the rationale in removing above average players if we cannot replace them with above average players?

Getting 3-5 solid contributors does not help when you need above average players to make the playoffs and do well in them.

We might have some great players in there, because players take time to develop. But with teams playing players earlier and players contributing earlier - it does not look like it. It looks like we have guys that can be starters but won't compete for top half of their position anytime (maybe Griffin, he looks above average).

The whole point of removing players as they age is so you can replace them with younger more effective talent. But we don't have any reason to expect we can provide that.

Sure top talent is expensive BECAUSE TOP TALENT HELPS YOU GET TO AND WIN PLAYOFF GAMES. We are going to see what a team of 'solid contributors' looks like in a few years. It costs more because it is worth it to have top talent.

Removing Sherman without any reasonable expectation you can get better without him is mindboggling. It isn't as if the money saved will go to get better players in other areas. We are going to spend it on middling starters, some overpriced veteran and then fill the gaps in with nobody cares draft picks (based on the track record the past few years.)

That isn't a tremendous plan.

Sherman is still a fantastic player. It's not emotional investment when you're giving up a productive player and aren't able to replace him, which our recent track record shows we won't do. What are we gonna do with all the extra cap space? Sign more Lacy's and Joeckel's?
Excellent points.

Sherm may have some good years ahead of him. The biggest problem is that he not only had surgery on one achilles but two. This is a game changer. His play last year was ok but not the Sherm we know. The problem is: do you take the chance on bringing a guy like that back at that price tag that may not get back to his potential? One has to think like a businessman. Do you take the risk with these types of injuries or do you release him freeing up the cap and let him shop around. If nobody picks him up then you renegotiate his contract at a lower rate. I love Sherm but as we have all seen he has been a real distraction in the locker room. As much as I like this guy, I am not sure I would be willing to risk this much money on a guy who may or may not ever come back to full playing potential. The position and the type of injuries he has could severely impact his mobility. One has to hope that the surgery was adequate and his ability to push off and jump are completely restored. It is one thing having one good leg to push off on and now he is unable to compensate with a good leg. This is a game changer.

So do nothing because you don’t think the team cant find suitable replacements?

That isn’t a tremendous plan either.

This is just pontification masking whining.

Or keep the fastest horse you can and ride it until you cannot.

Carroll wins because he puts playmakers in a position to make plays. But when you don't have playmakers?

It does not end well. So quit trading the playmakers if you cannot replace them.

Or fix the problem with the FO that makes the above a problem.

So Sherm unwilling to take a pay cut, does he really think he will earn a higher salary elsewhere? Or does he just want to leave that badly?

SHERMAN IS ARGUABLY THE BEST CORNER OF ALL TIME... statistically. You do not just cut Deion Sanders in his prime

Sanders did not have two Achilles tendons operated in the same off season if I recall.

In the end we all believe what we believe. Scott Mc certainly contributed enormously to the success of the team, added to that was a college coach who was plugged in to the recruiting market and knew many up and coming players. That situation made a dynamic team with the legitimate ability of JS.

Thing is Scott essentially drank himself out of his job here, and while clearly talented was released yet again from a job, released from SF, released from a successful situation in Seattle, released from Washington. Now consulting for the Browns it remains to be seen if he still has that magic, but they do have an enormous amount of draft capital. Could you keep a talented drunk on your team, maybe, but should you? Is that a price you want your organization to pay?

Personnel decisions in a cap stressed situation are tough and frequently are not correctly made. It’s made even tougher when you are constantly picking late on the draft. No doubt many of us heartily disagreed with the short-sighted trades for Harvin and Graham who our OC could not have used them any worse than he did. Both those trades cost the team early draft talent for little long term reward. In all, last season Big Balls Pete who is now most disconnected from the college want to go ‘all in’ and our early draft pick after traded down was lost for the year or even worse from youyth stupidity. Still wanting to go ‘all in’ the trade for Richardson was made and he wasn’t all that was hoped for and now will/could be an expensive Harvinesque Graham lite mistake. Trading for Brown was essential when it was clear Cable was in deep water with his various ‘projects’ and Wilson was going to get killed because there was zero ability to run or block for the run. Now here we are having made several 3rd contract commitments that perhaps were ill advised. It is true that the team has gotten slow as Pete observed and in the end Pete runs the show.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment that the only good young players on the roster are Clark, and Lockett. I like them both but I like Reed, have started to like Britt, think Pocic flashed some potential and both Naz Jones and Shaquille Griffin were solid picks. There to me as well is little doubt that Prosise is a talented player with huge potential if he could stay healthy. Carson could also be a special find. Seems to me there is talent that has been drafted waiting for their shot behind aging and injured guys. Some of it we have rarely seen but a few odd plays from unfortunately.

Maybe this will change, maybe a realization the the team was getting slow old and fixed in it’s ways are reasons enough for significant changes to happen.

One of the truly great players of this era. But his health could not be counted on anymore. Too bad, but these moves need to be timed right.

Thanks for everything Sherm!

I think these trades and moves this offseason have sent one message. This organization will not accept anything but a winner. First time we miss the playoffs since 2012 and look at the turnover.

The hawks gave these guys a platform to succeed and earn second contracts that have set them up for life. If they would have gotten drafted by the browns or some shit organization they possible could have had their talents wasted. They should be grateful for the opportunity that was handed to them.

We've gotten slow on defense and PC made a note of that. The defense is old and we are churning at the perfect time. If we wait another year or so, it could be too late.

This front office and coaching staff has taken us to heights unimagible, I'll stick with them with whatever choice they make. Theyve earned it.

Ok so cut the best corner in Seahawks history, without even giving him a shot to get right ... got it

Sherman is not Deion Sanders... that's just ridiculous. Deion is one of the greatest football players ever, Sherm isn't even the greatest CB in the league... Cmon man, get real.

Using that logic Kenny Easley should still be on the team. I mean he was our greatest Safety ever.

He probably can still cover better than Lane or Shead. 8)
