Ozzie Alonso is currently the highest rated player in MLS (7.5 out of 10) through 19 games. Crazy to think I (and many others) wanted to move on after last year.

Sounds like Lodeiro and Fernandez will be signed sometime next week. If Seattle can gel quickly and sneak into the playoffs, they'd be one of the deepest team in recent memory.

Lol, what?

There is zero chance this team makes the playoffs. We are SO BAD. Morcambe FC could beat us right now.
Lol, what?

reading is hard.

10 points from a playoff spot. Sneaking is an understatement. But more than anything, the Sounders are simply awful. That's not a good Sporting team that just tore them up. And I mean tore them up. That was very easy for a team that struggles to score.

I understand optimism, and digging up metrics on soccer can be a fruitless endeavor of hope or regret. How are the two players mixed with what Seattle already has going to make them any stronger?

If we play the same way at LA this weekend then ownership NEEDS to step in. I don't expect any points but do want to see some fight.

I get being a bad team and it happens but not trying (as shown in the third goal) is unacceptable. Why should fans waste their time and money when the players don't care? Attendances will start falling if this keeps up and will hit owners in the pocket.

What's worse is we cost ourselves a chance at the Open Cup by resting players midweek for the Kansas game then played like that. Kansas aren't even a good team this year.

Would like to see Evans moved back to midfield and Alfaro get a run.

Tyrone Mears needs dropped.

Deserves all the credit in the world for helping making the Sounders program the pinnacle of the MLS for a 3-4 year span. But it will only help the club moving forward.

That's a fair point, and I don't honestly think the Sounders have a chance at making the playoffs (although they currently sit closer to a 15% chance).

The point I was making is this - Once Seattle lands Lodeiro and Fernandez, they will have (on paper) one of the deepest teams in MLS history. Will they make the playoffs? probably not. They do have undeniable talent though - underachieving talent.

I don't know how I feel about the Sigi firing. I have no issue with him being fired, but I question why they did it mid season. I understand that it's about giving Brian a shot to run the team without committing to him long term. However, Sigi has been the coach of this team for 8 years and won a lot of games and trophies here, IMO he deserved to stay for the remainder of the year, or at the very least 'til we were mathematically eliminated.

Nicolas Lodeiro is a "star?"

When did that happen? Good player and good signing, but there are literally dozens of South American midfielders that are "stars" ahead of him.

Alvaro Fernandez has not lit the world alight since he left in 2012. Again, in suggesting that the signing of these two players makes the Sounders the "deepest team in MLS history" I would have to ask for the definition of "deep?" Are we talking sheer numbers? Because in terms of talent, well, no... that midfield is still very poor, lacks worth ethic and creativity (and discipline).

But, I like the Lodeiro signing, He will add an element and flexibility for the new manager.

"Mutually" lol. I never did trust a massively overweight professional coach. If you don't have enough discipline to keep your weight at least at some kind of manageable level how can you expect to instill that kind of discipline in your players?

The squad in 2012 was way deeper than these signings will make us now...

For one, in 2012 we had players capable of playing on the wings...a lot of them actually...

I know it may be the obvious choice in the matter...but I REALLY like Brian Schmetzer getting the helm for the rest of the season. I think there is a realistic chance he can keep the job going forward.

I fully expect Sigi to be named the inaugural manager of LAFC.

and if he goes...I fully expect Brad Evans to be traded to them.

It was coming, we'd been struggling all year and the performance last weekend strongly hinted his team had quit on him. Personally I would have done it last year. The team looked stale and out of ideas with oba carrying them and the rebuild should have happened then. Even our best teams massively underperformed in the play offs against the likes of LA and RSl when they were good.

Disagree about us on paper being a strong team. So many of our players have regressed this year due to age/injury. Zach scott, chad marshall, tyrone mears. Brad evans is a stop gap cb that shouldnt be there and it shows. Joevin jones is a down grade on Gonzalez of a few years ago and maybe even a downgrade on remick. On top of that i feel ozzy hasnt been as dominant as previous years and honestly...Dempsey has been a disappointment as a Sounder. Hes been great for the usa, even recently but I can think of only a handful of games where he has stepped up and been worth the money for the Sounderd. Montero, eddie johnson, oba were far more effective.

As for the wings, we dont have anyone that defenders appear. In the past we have rosales as a quality winger, fernandez had a couple of good years, we got robbed of zakuani and yedlin would run forward and scare teams.

Its make or break time for the gm now. He needs to get his guy in asap and bed in his philosophy. Next year is probably going to be a painful rebuild year but after mext year i expect us to compete again.

Its going to be scary for some fans in the post Sigi world. We may not even be as dominant in the regular season as in the past but its all about the play offs and getting thst championship.

I think sigi to the new LA team is a good shout but I think he needs to get his health and weight sorted. He'll be under severe pressure to get that team successful from day one given the failure of chivas usa and the dominance of the galaxy

Seems very plausible, Evans was always Sigi's guy and Sigi did all he could to play him. Brad Evans is the jack of all trades but master of none but has had some decent runs of form in the past. At this point I think only Jordan Morris is safe next year...maybe Dempsey because he is a 'name'. Did RSL ever have 'name' players under Lagerway when they were good? Beckerman I guess?

I hope he does well. We obviously need more quality than just him, especially at the back and up front. At this point i'm skeptical if Torres is back this year. Feel like he was just 'a few weeks' away since March. Do you even bother bringing him back this season?

Fernandez i'm guessing is a cheap punt in the hope he can regain his early sounders form. There's no real risk to this deal as I doubt he is making much.

Can we get them to take Zach Scott, too?

Please stop talking poorly about Zach Scott. The man is a living Sounder Legend, who is still giving his all for this club. We are lucky to still have him.

Beckerman, Rimando, and the big one, Javier Morales. That club was also loaded with secondary talents like Borchers, Olave, Saborio, etc.....Lagerway knows how to build a roster...but he's always had to do it on the cheap...interesting to see how he does it with a club with a few more $$.

Wouldn't shock me at all if we moved on from Brad....I would even go so far to say that unless Lagerway was here when they arrived, they could be moved on from going forward, including Alonso, Dempsey, Marshall, Evans.

Some could even move this window...
