The math on the trade value crunches as follows:

Seattle gives: #78 - 200 points, and 152 - 31 points: Total 231
Washington gives #102 - 92 points, and 179 - 20 points: Total 112
Difference is 119 points, which equates to 95th or 96th overall pick (end of round 3)

Here are the last ten quarterbacks drafted within ten spots of 95-96:

2022: Matt Corral, Panthers - Pick 94 - OUT OF THE LEAGUE
2022: Malik Willis (lol), Titans - Pick 86 - SOON TO BE GHOSTED BY THE LEAGUE
2019: Ryan Finley, Bengals - Pick 104 - OUT OF THE LEAGUE SINCE 2020
2019: Will Grier, Panthers - Pick 100 - 0-2 CAREER RECORD, 0 TDS TO 4 INTS
2017: C.J. Beathard, Niners - Pick 104 - TEAM TRADED FOR MAC JONES
2016: Connor Cook, Raiders - Pick 100 - OUT OF THE LEAGUE SINCE 2016
2016: Cody Kessler, Browns - Pick 93 - OUT OF LEAGUE SINCE 2018; 2-10 RECORD
2016: Jacoby Brissett, Patriots - Pick 91 - ALREADY ON HIS SIXTH TEAM
2015: Bryce Petty, Jets - Pick 103 - OUT OF LEAGUE SINCE 2017; 1-6 RECORD
2014: Sean Mannion, Rams - Pick 86 - OUT OF LEAGUE; 1 CAREER TD PASS

Would sure hate to miss out on that...

Must of been for public intoxication offences based on your assessment of Howell....
No... only one of them was. The other was because I missed a court date in one county when I was in jail in another county on an alcohol offense.

economics are fantastic on this trade.

We are far from finished in free agency and spending so little cap space on a back up QB helps move along in FA

You should completely set most of your roster before the draft, that way come draft day, you pick best available player instead of panicking because you have a hole to fill urgently
What do we have left about 5 milly ? For draft picks ……hmmmm

I don't understand why people are crapping on this trade. We need a backup QB with some upside, and we also need to draft a lot of new players, and this trade takes care of the QB without losing any draft picks. Having a backup with a year of experience as a starter is a bonus. Great job by Schneider on this one. It makes it easier to wait for a QB to fall to us instead of reaching.
This is my take as well.

Howell is a young guy (23) with upside that could end up starting for you in the future.

Worst case, he's a cheap backup.

I like Howell. The kid is a gunslinger. Yes, he took a lot of sacks and threw a lot of picks. That can be fixed with a better Oline and better coaching. He's only 23 and already has a year of NFL experience. That is valuable. I would rather have him than any of the incoming rookies that might fall to us. If John sees potential in him like he did in Mahomes and Allen, then that is good enough for me.

There are multiple trade value charts out there... so there's nothing sacred about one over another.

I calculated a mid-7th round pick as the cost of trading for Howell. Others, using a different chart, calculated a high 4th round pick.

So, the cost is likely somewhere in between.
I saw your earlier post and figured you had miscalculated, (no bigee). Apparently you didn't. Out of curiosity can you please link the chart you used. I'm interested by other sources' Draft valuations.

Someone posted this and I agree.. He's a Baker Mayfield lite.
John had to have been drinking again.
I absolutely do not want this guy ever starting a game for the Hawks.

I think I'm ok with it. You drop down 20sh? picks or so and maybe Howell's tape suggests he has the potential to be really good. He did throw for 4,000 yards last year I think on a bad team without any weapons? I seem to always be contrarian lately and maybe its driving this but I like it.
Some would say McLaurin is pretty good.

Logan Thomas, the guy who’s son idolizes DK is not a bad tight end…

Washington (Howell) did play Seattle pretty well…

Add in 2 good RBs and Jahan Dotson and Washington has some weapons on offense. Their line really sucked and Bienemy did too.

Howell can sling it but the compensation for him seems a bit steep.

I will reserve judgement until I see what Howell can do in Grubb's offensive system.
