There’s a weird hate thing for Darnold on here. Like people seem to think he’s not the guy, yet look at the Bills, Ravens, Chiefs… top end qbs who aren’t where we are. Yes we’ve built a great team, but if we had Geno or someone like that we wouldn’t be here. Sam isn’t costing us games, he’s making good decisions and he’s not taking a ridiculous portion of the cap. Absolutely bizarre behaviour in here.

I think it's weird that it's viewed as "hate" to acknowledge the fact that our team is so damn good that we don't need our QB to do much to win games. Personally, I think that's awesome. I'd much rather have a team that can absolutely dominate in every phase, than a team that has to rely on a super star QB to carry the team.

We just curb stomped the 9ers into oblivion in a game where our QB only passed for 124 yards and 1 TD. That's not a bad thing, and it's not a knock on Darnold. That's a very good thing and I absolutely love how this team is playing.

I'd like to think that Sam knows what the difference is between a bad pass and a good one.

Which is funny to say considering his history but guess what?

He's LEARNED over the years.

It's not like he's the same NYJ Sam Darnold who threw INTs like they were going out of style.

I disagree with @Appyhawk 's assessment that this (TD to JSN) was a dangerous throw.

Maybe a dangerous throw to QBs who aren't able to make those passes but Darnold has done this repeatedly with success with us.

Don't you remember that amazing throw to JSN down the sideline against the Texans that was just out of the reach (finger tips) of Lassiter?

What about the layered throw he made to Cooper Cup for First-down in this game? Is that considered a dangerous throw?

What about the throw in the back of the endzone against the Rams to JSN during "the comeback"?

It's only dangerous (like I said) if you can't do it (or haven't done it before).

This narrative shit and everything involved has to phucking stop. The constant goal post moving has to stop. The hate boner for him then claim “it’s not a hate boner and I appreciate what he’s done BUT” like someone condescending HR turd about to fire you or has fired you.

Be a fan support him, support the team or GTF off the bandwagon and go ride the wagon of another team.

Right. Is the "hate" in the room/thread with us, right now? I, admittedly, haven't read every page tho.

I can't remember any really long drive the Seahawks had in yesterday's game. They were extremely efficient with the opportunities they had and most of the time it was very short field. Like Seahawks 40 yard line when their drives started. I could be wrong on that. Since the run game was so effective, Sam didn't have to throw and it was short field when he did. It's harder to get the 250 yards or whatever his critics are looking for. The Seahawks were 4 of 6 in redzone and they came away with 2 FGs on the 2 opportunities they missed on.

So even after helping to win 14 games and getting to the NFCCG, you think it's debatable that he will be our QB next season?

I should have said going into the future and left it at that rather than saying next season. Yes, of course he's going to be our QB next year, at least to start the year. But beyond that is debatable.

okay that's different.

Yeah. This year plus next (and the following year) will determine whether he's earned an extension or if they need to look elsewhere.

But i'm going to go out on a limb and say he won't be going anywhere for awhile.

Plus, there's still more of this season left to play. If he plays lights out, wins the SB MVP, it's going to change the thought process of a lot of people, including our coaches/GM. Same thing if he (heaven forbid) throws 4 picks next weekend and we lose by 3 TD's.

QB’s are turning the ball all over these playoffs, and somehow the NFL wants to talk about Darnold throwing a pick against the Rams last year.

I've said this in another thread. Sam isn't going anywhere. Neither is Milroe. Lock maybe.
Why on earth would we drop Sam?? Have you heard what his teammates say about him? In this case, I don't think they are just empty platitudes. They sound very sincere in their belief in Sam. ESPECIALLY if we go all the way. I was on the fence with him for a long time this season.......but he has proved his worth. And for the position he plays vs dollars spent, theres just no question. Lock is expendable.....literally he is a dime a dozen. Milroe has a high ceiling, and is still cheap. Sam's the man for the foreseeable future.

With a perspective like this on Sam, you could get a front office job with the Vikings..............just saying. ;)

How many people doing these also went on and on and on and on about Geno? I'll bet it's the same cast of characters. It's like trolling one's own forum members over bs.

It's not Sam hatred, it's skepticism by a few that Sam can put together a complete game. The overreactions to such people doesn't contribute anything useful by way of conversation.

A few here have said that complete game needs to look a certain way, like--what?--300 yards, multiple TDs, no INTs, (and probably little-to-no rushing game to bail out the O) in a win over a powerhouse opponent at the most needed time...(and, what else shall we throw in there, during a hurricane that's decimating his hometown while his wife's dying of cancer), etc.?

It's just an artificial bar, and setting it there means few QBs in the NFL will ever reach it. And your artificial bar is irrelevant to his ability to contribute to wins, and even overcome his flaws in the same game. He's done that this season, and that's all that matters for me. You doubters can continue in your ridiculous expectations, but they look foolish already, and will even more so when/if the Hawks win it all, regardless how he plays.

Don't know how anybody can watch that game on Saturday and not see that it was basically a masterclass from Darnold.

2nd and 20? 21 yard conversion to Kupp (followed almost immediately by the 20 yard DPI on Shaheed)
4 yard TD to JSN
3rd and 10 to Bobo

Those 3 plays directly added 17 points all in the first half. We scored on 6 out of 7 drives led by Darnold - the only misstep a 3rd and short deep shot where Shaheed just couldn't quite separate from the DB.

We will win 100% of games where Darnold plays like that.

That's right - Darnold only started one drive inside our own 35 (touchback starting at the 20) - and we scored a TD on it anyway. 49ers being anaemic to punting really helps - if teams keep going for it on 4th down against us Darnold is never going to have to do much. Maybe they prefer the risk of failing to convert vs giving Shaheed the ball.

That second Rams game was effectively a playoff game. It was on national TV. The loser had almost no chance to get the #1 seed. And Darnold made some exquisite throws in the 4th quarter and overtime. He didn't panic and patiently waited for his receiver to come open on the 2-point conversion. Aside, what are we really comparing him to? This entire playoffs has been a masterclass in quarterbacks throwing interceptions and fumbling it away.
