Aged Vet had an injury, his game is movement, showcasing his health is what is needed, not his stat sheet. You don't want to trade for a guy that can't play and be on IR after the first practice or game.
I disagree. You can prove your physical health in a workout/medical physical. Besides, you don't showcase a quarterback, the most important player on the field, when you're leading your division. The Steelers have plenty of justification for thinking that this could be their year.
If the Steelers start Russell this weekend, it's because they feel that he gives them the best chance to win now. That's why they brought him in in the first place. Why else would you bring in a 35-year QB then give him the pole position in the QB room? I don't understand why it's so difficult for people to understand that not everyone thinks as they do that Russell is trash. It's apparent that he still has coaches and teammates who believe in him.
Having said that, I personally don't believe that Russell gives the Steelers the best chance to win now. They have their problems on offense, and Fields mitigates those problems to some degree with his mobility. He's accounted for 10 of their 11 TD's while turning the ball over just once. I don't think that Russell can improve on that.
The Steelers have a top 10 defense, ranked 2nd in points allowed and 8th in yards, and they need a game manager-type quarterback who doesn't turn the ball over or take ugly sacks that puts their defense in a bad position, much like what Russell did for us during our SB years. That's exactly what Fields has been doing for them.
