I just don't understand why people care I guess. You want to wear a jersey with a player name and number? Go ahead. You don't want to? That's fine too. People need to stop worrying about what other people do. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone, who cares? The world would be a LOT better if people just were kind and stopped wanting other people to be like them.
They don't really care what I wear, just when I explain why I won't wear another player's name or number, they raise their eyebrows and chuckle. It's amongst friends, so it's no big deal to me or to them. And I'm with you; I don't pass judgement on others who choose to wear a certain person's name or number. It's just not my thing.
Reminds me of a story. Several years ago, a group of friends and I went to a Seahawks-Cards game in Glendale. A few hours before the game, we went into a bar just outside of the stadium, a place called McFadden's. Everyone, and I mean everyone, in the bar was wearing a Seahawks jersey or paraphernalia. Except for the one guy. I happened to pass by him as he sat at a table, and I jokingly said to him
"Hey, man, you can't wear that in a Seahawks bar. You need to turn that thing inside-out if you want to wear it in here." He got defensive, said
"Oh, no, no, no! I'm from Washington! Budda Baker, #21 (since changed his number to #3) is my nephew, and I'm wearing it to honor him." I got all embarrassed, apologized for being such a smart ass, bought him a beer and talked with him at some length.
Only guy in the bar wearing a Cards jersey and he was from Washington. It was all good, but I really do need to keep my big mouth shut.
