Maybe.
But it doesn't sound like he did anything that terrible.
Based on the story, it sounds like had someone in his house causing a disturbance ('got into a fight').
Pulled her into the bedroom, told her to leave, and then started dragging her out of his house.
Assault? Sure. Justified? Not according to the law but not egregiously terrible either. Guys that go after women and prevent them from leaving? Or show up where they are to try to assault/intimidate them? Sure, throw the book at them. But a guy trying to remove someone unwanted from his own home? Not even close to the same level of wrong.
It was not DV, she did not live there.
Maybe the grabbing her by the throat was bad, but was it *really* grabbing her by the throat? Or was it him just grabbing her by the top of the shoulder to pull her close and she embellished?
Now she is locking herself in a bathroom, his bathroom, so he tries to break the door down. Fair enough. That could be menacing. But again, not egregious enough for the average fan to need to care.
He handled it poorly. But there isn't enough there for me to be bothered about his playing on the team after 6 games. And what he did was not even close to something that should get a 6 game suspension.
Regardless...
What guys need to learn is that your stuff is not worth it. Lock your things. Buy cameras to record what people do when you are gone. And when there is conflict, vacate. Because you have more to lose than she does. And the law is going to take her word over yours. If she breaks or steals things after you go? The cameras will catch it. But get out or have someone else assault her for you (like McCoy probably did in Buffalo). Either way, never ever personally physically engage a woman in conflict, even in your own house. It rarely ends well.
