I'm sorry but you will never convince me it's right to suspend a guy for something the justice system ruled there wasn't enough to charge him for

I totally agree, and the hypocrisy of convicting someone with innuendo, and guess-timations is a Civil Rights violation. He has the right to face his accuser, and if no charges are filed he is completely innocent in my book.

Anyone ever have a woman attack you? It is not fun, and I ended up in jail for having a cigarette being put out on my chest while sleeping. Cops called, cops cuffed me and hauled me away from a dead sleep after I had locked my self away from "miss crazy". She continued drinking, and was angry I would not continue the loud discussion she craved. The record reads probably very much like his reads now.

If, and it still is an if, he hit a woman, throw him out. No matter how good he is.

If the woman deserves it, i dont see why not. In this case there is no proof of what happened. Didn't get charged. As for Hunt situation, the woman deserved it.

If you dont involve gender and go by on Person A & Person B did, there was nothing wrong in this situation. DV should not have even been called.

It takes a very sick and cowardly person to ever determine a woman "deserved" to be physically abused.

I am very much with Seymour on this one.

As far as divorcing persons from.gender, that is hardly possible when part of the problem is that there are enormous physical power differences between men and women. That has to be accounted for.

It is an interesting take.

Charles Barkely once threw a man through a window. Nobody freaked out, even though I am sure there was a 'massive difference between physical power between the two'.

I don't care. If someone assaults you, you have the right to punch them in the face. Legally, obviously not. But morally, sure.

Either women have agency or they don't. I choose to believe they do. But if they do, then they reap the consequences of their actions just like everyone else.

But you do involve gender, that's why he's getting suspended six games. You never assault or hit a woman, unless someone's life is in danger in self defense.

That's not what happened here.

The topic fellows is the suspension of Reed not the inherent racism some think pervades the board or the revelation of true personality with the disinhibition of alcohol or whatever.

Let's try to get back on point here.

Dude, conversations evolve. Points are brought up that people are interested in discussing. This "stay on topic" tact is a really good way to kill off the few threads that people are interested in participating in right now, and is exactly what Pe and Peaches were talking about being a factor in this place becoming boring and stale.

I'm not trying to attack you or the board. I'm just trying to bring to your attention that this place is a lot more interesting when conversations are allowed to evolve as they may as long as no lines are being crossed.

50/50 this post gets deleted, sadly.

Furthermore, the topic McGruff and I were discussing has a direct bearing on the matter at hand because it reflects our differing views as to how a person will judge Reed's fitness for an extension.

@McGruff I see what you mean now, by the way. I misinterpreted what you were saying, and I would agree more fully. (I really don't think we're that far off, honestly).

And this is why people need to keep talking.

Thanks for forcing me to clarify. I dont want to be unclear on an important and personal topic.

I have no idea what they would do with an extension. It's a mess.

How hard is it to not beat women?

Not hard when your amygdala is damaged.

Football players (especially those in physical positions), and boxers are more likely to be violent/domestic abusers. Hasn't anyone noticed that, compared to say basketball or baseball players?

There's a reason for that. It's psychological, it has more to do with brain damage over time than anyone is willing to admit. Society just isn't ready to have that conversation because it's seen as an "excuse" for abuse. But it's actually just factual
I disagree ..
I see more baseball and basketball players getting in DV situations BUT
football seems to come down on it more..
Baseball has in recent times cracked down..
NBA?Those guys get away with a lot I think.

That's because the NBA Player's Association bargained it, just as they bargained far more lenient weed rules and punishments.

That's really what this is about, the other sports leagues have far more powerful player's associations that have bargained these sorts of things well for the players.........while the NFL players have done a poor job and allowed not only far more ownership power, but said yes to Goodell having full autonomy with handing out punishments and suspensions.

So no, I don't think there's a higher percentage of DV in the NFL, other than there's just a far bigger pool of players to commit crimes vs the other sports leagues with much smaller rosters.

There are enormous physical power differences between NFL players and regular humanity in general. If that's what you are truly trying to address you're leaving out a huge population by only focusing on gender. Would you want the same punishment if Reed had assaulted a 5' 7" 110# adult male?

The DV label gets thrown around way too easily. It's not meant to be based on gender, it has to do with the emotional / psychological magnification of physical abuse. If he had no relationship with the assault victim, it's not DV.

DV is pretty clearly defined as physical abuse committed by a family member or household resident against another family member or household resident........and yes I'd imagine the league sees a man committing DV against a woman or child as worse than another small man.

You guys keep trying to parse legalities and scenarios, when it's as simple as "protecting the shield."

The NFL owners and Goodell want to make as much money as possible, and so they're going to punish anybody that harms that revenue stream. DV is one of those image problems that harms said stream. Thus the harsh punishment.

They and our teams can talk all they want about "zero tolerance" but it's about what it's always been about. Money. Fighting with your GF, choking your GF, large man vs. small woman, however you wanna parse it. It's bad, and it's going to be punished.

I'll introduce you to my Late Aunt Norma, she hit like a guy, was not a small women but not fat just very well built, her dad boxed and had a heavy bag.

She had 6 kids and didn't look like it, she also had 5 husbands all of them died somehow....

She once took a coffee cup and smashed her own face so the cops would haul her husband away, once they did she cleaned out the house, the bank account, served the divorce papers. This is after she had beat the crap out of him more then once because he would not hit a women and it wasn't something you admitted to that your wife kicked your ass.

That pattern repeated itself over the next 4 husbands. She had no more kids, was living off the money and SS checks she got from her exes and their pensions.

I disagree.

It depends on the circumstances and context.

That hardly matters though. The 'Shield' levied the punishment already.

At issue is whether the fans will care when he returns.

The good thing about this is that this likely makes him much cheaper to extend. So that is a huge positive.

If we can get him back right before the playoffs, and he is rested, goes on a tear, and still ends up being affordable for an extension? Then it was all worth it. Which is really all that matters.

1 - Does he produce sacks, pressures, and do well against the run?
2 - Is the defense better with him in there?
3 - Does the team win more games or do better in the playoffs because of him?
4 - Can we afford him?*

If the answers to all or most are yes? Then absolutely re-sign him. I don't care what he supposedly did or didn't do.

* This incident likely makes him less expensive now anyway.

We can all find exceptions. I'm talking about the general rule.

An intelligent human would walk.....er......RUN from that situation and it would end there. Beyond that, you can walk away from a woman hitting you, bear hug her, lock her out....ect rather than strike her with a fist.

If your life or long term health is at risk then everything changes....game on. That is rarely the case though.

We'll I've read a couple different articles from HER point of view never have seen one from Reed's and simply didn't see anything there to warrant a six game suspension. If that opinion is a problem for anyone here I really don't care. I 100 percent still support JR.

Im not talking about physical abuse, more like right to defend myself.

If a woman is attacking you, im not going to just stand there and get assaulted. If i try to move away from the situation and still being attack then yeah she "deserves" to get hit back. If she has gun, ill shoot her too. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Grown adult women want equal rights then she gets equal lefts too.

If a crime is happening it should always be treated gender neutral.

lol run and pay child support for 6 kids that would not see a dime of it since she would be searching for the next victim, all the while the kids are taking care of each other, why he stayed till the end, like I said all her husbands died, he died a few weeks later. Are you that much of a simpleton not to know how things really work in the world.
