The Vikings are more like to keep McCarthy and let Darnold walk than trade him. If they can make Darnold look as good as he has, then they likely believe they can get good play out of McCarthy on a cheaper contract.

Maybe McCarthy doesn't put up the same numbers in his first year as Darnold, but if he can manage the game well enough to have them in contention year in & year out, then like I said, I think they're confident enough in the coaching staff to bet on McCarthy.
The Vikings are not going to let Darnold walk for free. I don't think the Vikings mind shelling out huge amounts of money for Darnold. The Vikings don't have any incentive to get rid of any of them. Darnold is going to get a massive deal, but I guarantee it will include a lot of incentives and some easy outs given his lack of sustained success.

His lack of success actually makes signing Darnold very advantageous for the Vikings giving the maneuverability and considerable leverage that they have over Darnold in contract talks. He's going to get a big deal on paper, but it'll have tons of incentives and outs.

At the very least there is going to be a franchise tag and trade.

The Vikings also don't have an incentive to move JJ McCarthy either. At this point he's cheap enough to just let him chill on the bench and develop in case Darnold goes back to his old self. I think a team would have to offer a very big package to convince the Vikings to trade McCarthy or Darnold at this point. They don't have many disadvantages to keeping both of them at this point. It's easily the best QB situation in football right now and the Vikings are likely going to get disgustingly rich off of one of these guys. At the very least they're going to have a good QB.

I predict it'll be Geno back under center. There's not going to be anybody available out there better this off season. All those QBs you list would not be an upgrade, they would most likely be a downgrade.

Howell's poll numbers are gaining momentum in the past three days! If the trend keeps up, he will pass Field as our dot net's number 1 choice as QB 2025.
