Just to comment on McCarthy and Darnold with Minnesota I expect the Vikings to keep both QBs. McCarthy is on a rookie contract and the Vikings have plenty of cap space in 2025 to re sign Darnold

Fields is an interesting question on this list. He's in the final year of his contract, so both he and Russ will be unrestricted free agents after the season. I don't want either QB but it'll be interesting to see who, if either of them, the Steelers sign, and how much they sign for.

I expect Daniel Jones to be available for signing, because the Vikings will keep their cheap prospect on a rookie deal and they'll pay Darnold. They won't want to pay Jones as well. Apparently they're looking at adding him to the active roster for the playoffs, because they'll get a 2026 compensatory pick when he gets signed by another team.

My only hope is that JS doesn’t sign Geno to an extension this offseason. He’s a good but not franchise tilting player. Don’t fall into the same problem that the Giants created when the resigned Daniel Jones to an extension.

Let Geno play out his contract. Draft a QB, which might be an unknown nobody, keep developing Howell - and push for development. And for gosh sakes fix LG !

I think the Vikings need to move on from Darnold. Even though Darnold played really well, you can add pieces around McCarthy at that cap space and see what McCarthy has. You don’t want to pull an Atlanta Kirk Cousins situation with Darnold. I’ll take my chances with McCarthy and add to the team with the extra cap space than risk it with Darnold.

None of those are options. I still need to see Howell actually play after taking snaps with the 1st team to form a real opinion. I'm not going to dismiss the guy from 1 half of football. Drew lock and Fields are trash. I'd stay Geno at that point.

Howell has been trash since he entered the league.

Time to discuss the single most important position on any football team. Geno will be gone as most 12s on dot net wanted him gone. QB pool for 2025 draft may be weak with no ready to start on day 1 prospects. So we have:

Sam Howell
He is clearly a fan favorite here in dot net.

Justin Field
Most on dot net are happy to trade for him.

Drew Lock
After his 4 TDs game, lonely eyes from dot net are looking longingly at Drew

All three provide youth, young enough to become the second coming of Darnold, Mayfield or Geno. All three will provide of "he just need more time" to 12s after a bad game.
Yes, Geno will be gone because a few loud, obnoxious users on a dying message board want him gone./s

I hope we are done with the Geno experiment and he ends up in Pissburgh. Geno and Tomlin would be a match made in purgatory.

Darnold is doing very well.

I think 1 year contracts are smart.

I assume the Vikings will raise the pay to keep him.
Why do you assume this? Darnold is an impending FA. The QB franchise tag is expected to be around $41M. Why would you tag your bridge QB when your QBOTF is already on the roster? Is Darnold worth $41M, and if so does he have trade value at that price? Logically a team that doesn't have a QB will likely be willing to pay more than a team that already has a QB. If Darnold isn't worth the tag price he's likely to sign with a team that offers him long-term guarantees, (which won't be the Vikings).

Geno is a goner, when he is not putting butts on seats in our stadium, his days are limited. Geno wants his last long-term contract, he has been saving his body for that contract, but he is not likely to get that from the Hawks. He might reluctantly come back to finish his contract or a deeply discounted 1+1 or 1+2 if he couldn't find other opportunities, but the Hawks ought to resist. Why? Geno could be checked out on these discount contracts on the business front and he has been hearing steps on football field.

Drew, Sam and Justin might be our only choices.

Geno isn't going anywhere. We're stuck with him for one more season and that big contract you think is on the horizon for him is never going to happen. Nobody is going to give a 36 year old QB that hasen't done anything in his career a big, multi year contract. After next season, Seattle might give him another one year deal on the cheap if they are truly building everything else up and looking for another QB somewhere.

Lock, Darnold, and Fields aren't the answer either. Lock had one good game, Darnold had a great year, but has all the pieces in Minnesota that Seattle doesn't, and Fields can only run the ball and is a horrible passer. All three are fools gold and I feel sorry for the team that's going to grossly over pay for Darnold.

Sam Howell has not shown me anything so far that makes me think he's the answer.

Justin Fields is a runner who can't really throw the ball effectively.

Drew Lock had one good game against a middling Colts defense.

None of these are upgrades.

Darnold would be, the question is does JS want to pay to get him? or could he get McCarthy if the Vikings decide to keep Darnold?
