They drafted a QB #1 who might be terrible, and a pick at #7 who might be really good. Them's the breaks.

Our team has never drafted a serviceable QB in round 1, not ever, not even close.

Dunno...you ever get tired of wearing a tinfoil hat?
Thinking he's covering his ass isn't a conspiracy. It's human nature. It's not like anyone could fault him for lying. There's absolutely no consequences for it in this situation, while he can potentially save face... and there are clearly people still gullible enough to believe it. :p

So true. The only great QB we've ever drafted was a 3rd rounder. All our other QBs of note were undrafted free agents (Krieg, Zorn, Kitna, hell, even Moon), with only Hasselbeck as an exception, and he was a trade acquisition. The most noteworthy thing about our 1st round QBs is we somehow fleeced Chicago for a 1st in return for Rick Mirer.

Sometimes it's fun. But considering the Niners haven't taken a step back, and they just destroyed us in the playoffs, it feels more petty than fun.
But we do this whether we win or lose.
This is San Francisco bro.

What a shocker, two 49ers fans liked your comment. As if they aren't also people who are happy to see a high draft pick fail at a rival regardless of how good that rival team is at the given time.

Hypocrisy is ever the most prevalent of human traits.

Thinking he asked Lance to help Brock isn't gullible. Lance, Shanahan, AND Brock said as much. In fact Brock credited Trey for his help last season.

I guess my default position isn't to assume people are lying when they all speak...especially when three separate people say the same thing.

...it requires a tinfoil hat to believe they all conspired to say the same thing...IE, Conspiracy.

In the end tho...I just think its a really odd thing to care so much about. I never heard of another injured QB being criticized for helping the starter or being around the team.

Its almost like its a...fetish.

FYI...He's been saying that since before camp. Its not new. He really likes Darnold. In fact, he said he thinks Darnold can beat out Purdy.

...that should tell you something.

It is hard to call @FrodosFinger individually Obsessed when at the mo every local journo agrees with frodos pessimistic take. When the actual play by play over knbr radio, Greg papa, is openly saying it’s a competition between Trey and Brandon Allen as to who makes the roster.

Lance lost decisively to Aiden O’ Connell, a fifth round rookie who may have never seen the 1s in practice, let alone never being on an nfl field.

Off-topic, but I was really impressed with Aidan O'Connell. I know it was against second-stringers, but he was good for three quarters. Strong, accurate arm, good movement in the pocket, good decision-making.

1) Every Local Journalist doesn't agree with Arlos. DO they have issues with Trey and are concerned? Absolutely...but the consensus do not have remotely close to his take.
2) Greg Papa thinks Darnold can challenge Purdy. Take him with a grain of salt. I like Greg but I think he's way off on this one.
3) QBs don't play each other...so no clue what Aiden O'Connell has to do with this. No 49er starter played on either side of the ball....so what point are you even trying to make? Are you saying O'Connell played well so why couldn't Trey?

I don't want to make this an excuse fest, so I'm not gonna get into possible reason why...but I'll just say the reactions to his play on Sunday are WAY, WAY, WAY overblown. I mean the level of negative commentary on him by national media is just off the charts. Its ludicrous.

Trey may never be a good player, but the stuff I see from Michael Lombardi, Shady McCoy, and others is just bad "journalism". I've never seen anything like it on player that's played so little.

I actually agree with you here. 49ers reserve D didn't put up much resistance, but he played well.

Oi...trying to think if the 49ers have....

Montana: 3rd round
Young: Trade
Garcia: UDFA (Played in Canada)
Kap: 2nd round
Garoppolo: Trade

Brodie maybe? Only one I can think of.

Kawakami of the Athletic, Silver of the Chronicle, whoever’s covering out at the Merc, knbr (others besides papa) maioucco, no one but Cohn thinks Lance is remotely him.

Of course Aidan didn’t play Trey directly but the sum of their combined play favored Aiden, who may well be the next Purdy.

So let’s see about this next week against the broncs. It really could come down to Ben dinucci vs Trey and who puts up more points. If Trey can’t excel over an Xfl player, I think that’s the end of treys convo.

Alex Smith was better than any first round QB Seattle has ever drafted. Not great but he ended up being a solid starter and pro bowler.
