I get the impression that he misses NYC.

I like the idea of franchising Richardson for a year & then collecting the 3rd round comp pick if we can't work out an extension.

What's the old saying, "absence makes the heart grow fonder?"

Richardson certainly didn't have any problems criticizing the Jet's organization and causing waves in the locker room while he was there. Now he longs to be back?

Doubtful. Again, this is his agent hyping up free agency making it known Richardson already has a suitor in the Jets, so you better come strong.

Ya, I'm willing to concede that that is the more likely scenario too.

Actually the Seahawks likely will NOT get a 3rd round comp pick from Richardson. The roster has only 37 guys signed and at least 3 of them will be on PUP or retired to start the season. That leaves 19 roster spots that need to be filled with a good chunk of draft capital already traded away... Meaning, they are very likely going to have to spend in free agency, negating any comp picks they might be getting.

That could be another good reason to franchise Richardson for another season. Though I'm not sure they will target any high-priced free agents.

With what cap space?... Again, 19 guys + 10 practice squad guys (about $1.5 million) plus keeping 5-10 million during the season to sign players to replace injuries all on just $18,920,048? Fat chance. Some major restructures (kicking the can down the road) or big name players being cut would have to happen.

Also the injured guys can't be cut until they can pass a physical or else they are owed their full salary for the year... So that doesn't even free up money.

I need to look further into this. It better not be correct.

If so, Pete's next book will be ...."Rebuild Forever"

Aren't we were going to franchise Graham? :stirthepot:

We can't afford ANY expensive FA signings so we probably will re-sign some guys internally, spread cap hit via signing bonus (which yes we could do with FA guys as well) then sign FA players post the deadline where they don't offset comp picks

Let him walk. Bad trade that backfired IMO. We lose a draft position, and did not accomplish our goal with him. We also lost Kearse too, who at least had some trade value.

A bit telling he'd rather go back and play for the Jets also. We aren't everything that some claim we are here anymore.

Here is a link to the actual article.

Richardson did make the team better in the short-term. Imagine going into this season with Naz and Reed as the starting tackles.

Tuba was cut by the Broncos after we cut him and the Falcons use him as a backup.

It was time to move on from Kearse - he was not improving here and it paved the way for Richardson to break out. Also DB, Lockett and Richardson have stayed healthy.

I am willing to agree maybe the trade didn't work out as intended but it was certainly not a bad trade at the time. Hindsight is 20-20

. Kearse has 709 yards and 5 TDs this season for a mediocre team with a mediocre (at best) QB.......

McCown actually has a better QB rating than Russell (look it up). I know he isn't a better QB but Kearse was never going to light it up here.

I attribute a lot of his improvement to a change of scenery and a team playing from behind an awful lot.

I would consider this as well. He isn't worth long term Donald or Fletcher Cox, like another poster mentioned above I was hoping his price tag would go down a tad as his numbers aren't overly impressive.

I do want to keep him somehow though (even if that means a franchise tag) -- number one reason. He's a top 5 or 6 DT and he's not old. With us having so many aging players I hate to roll the dice hoping we can draft another young star when we haven't done that very well the last few years.

I would much rather shed the contract of someone like Graham or Bennett who is aging than let a young talent under 28 walk for a comp pick.

Richardson is gone. The jets have a good developing defense and have looked good recently and they are improving. He sees we are on the decline and our coaches suck. If the jets are interested he is out.

If Richardson would rather play for the Jets than Seattle, what does that say for the Hawks? Doesn't look good.

I'm not sure on the exact number for the 2018 franchise tag for a DT, but I'd expect it to be somewhere over $14M.

According to him there hasn't been any contact between our FO and his agent. If we were dead set on keeping him, I would think there would have at least been something. His agent is doing what he's paid to do. Drum up interest.

I'm okay with him leaving. We had a formula that we haven't gotten away from. Lets get back to it. For a while we had Mebane and scrap heap fat guys that ate blockers and allowed our LBers to come up and make tackles. It was those guys that set the tone for our physicality.

Good, don't need to spend 14 mil on a D lineman. And if they sign him to a massive deal in NY, that's a 3rd Rd. comp pick coming back.
