Is this the best secondary in nfl history?

If you consider them as an collective group to include Maxwell and Lane, they are up there with best in history, likely among the deepest secondarys ever, but there are individual tandems that have proven more over a longer period of time. Having said that, you can't really pass judgement until the next few seasons play out.

I still believe that the Seahawk secondary of Eugene Robinson, Patrick Hunter, Dwayne Harper, and Robert Blackmon was the best Seattle secondary until the "Legion of Boom" came along.

My dad was a Raiders fan back in the 1970s and living in LA in the early 80s, I grew up watching that secondary every week. Funny aside, I once got suspended from grade school for referring to my favorite PE teacher as Lester the Molestor. Even my dad laughed and tried to explain to the principal that I was referring to Lester Hayes, and probably was not intended as an accusation or insult.

Anyway, I've been making that comparison since last off-season. Having grown up watching that Raiders secondary battling an equally fierce and physical Seahawk secondary in the early 80's, this team looked like the ugly brutal offspring. Which is to say, after seeing them both over a full season, IMHO the Legion of Boom is a bigger game changer than either of them, or the mid 80s Niners who were probably third best since the 70's.

I don't think he is. If they can keep playing at anywhere near the same level for another 6-8 years and we win a championship or two, there's no doubt in my mind they'd both be HOFers. Probably first ballot.

It is even more impressive when you consider how the rules have changed to favor the passing game as well. A 300 yard passing game is ordinary now. Back then it was very impressive. So for this secondary to do what they do in this era with these rules they need to be considered among (if not the) best. Now like hawks4thewin said, If we dont win it all who will really remember. People only remember the winners.

Not sure its the best of all time..but I would agree its the deepest of all time. If you took Lester Hayes away from those Raiders teams, and put in whoever started the season as their #5 CB, Im sure you would see more drop off than you see with our team (that is to say, none).

Raiders, Steelers, 49ers, Lions all had great secondarys, 49ers never get the credit becasue the offense was so talked about. But they were good.

'84 49ers sent their entire starting secondary to the pro bowl. The Walsh/Seifert era DBs were better than the Singletary/Harbaugh era secondary.

Mid 90s Cowboys were strong.

Mid 00s Ravens were strong.

'70s raiders and steelers were great.

Don't forget the '95 Niners with Deion. Also had Tim Mcdonald, Merton Hanks, and Eric Davis.

Still, I think our secondary is a lot more physical than they were.

In this modern era with the rules as they are, I'd say they are the best. Kind of hard to compare to the old "Ds". IMO

Eagles have had some really good secondaries in the past, early 2000's when they had Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Brain Dawkins. Those guys all played really well together, even in the late 80's early 90's when Buddy Ryan was coaching them, they had a good secondary. I'm only 35 so I don't remember anything mid/early 80's and before, but out of all the secondaries I've watched play I think the Seahawks have the best and deepest out of any I've seen.

That was my first thought, too.

This year's secondary I think is certainly in the discussion for best secondary in NFL history, but it may not even be the best secondary in Seahawks history.

Overall they are up there.

But those Raiders with Hanes/Hayes... that was insane.

They were also allowed to nearly kill people on every down. I doubt they'd be as great in the 2013 NFL.

I was amazed today how great the boom played today. It got me thinking have I ever witnessed a better secondary since I have been watching football?
Pete and John, can find players out of nowhere, our coaches can flat out get production from them,and our depth is sick! To answer my own question from top to bottom it's the greatest I have ever seen since 1972.
What's your thoughts fellow 12's

You're joking right? Your secondary haven't proven anything yet. Please win a championship first before asking that question.

BTW, the 84 Niners secondary was superior. We sent all four players in the secondary to the pro bowl. We shut down Dan Marino in the Superbowl which was the same year he set the record for the most TD's in a season.

Deion is the greatest CB in the history of the NFL. Deion would take away one side of the field. Richard Sherman is not up to that level, he doesn't take away an entire side of an NFL field.
