If they fired him today, mid season, probably Tom Cable. Would be a bit easier then introducing RW to a OC that he's never worked with. Easier to find a line coach that'd be Cable's puppet, then finding an OC that will be Pete's.

He is gonna land a HC job next offseason and I am not sad to see him go. His playcalling is not very inspiring and there will be good candidates lining up for a change to work with Wilson.

I don't like Bevell, at least, I don't like his play-calls. But, playing devils advocate, the Offense works as a unit. It's ridiculous to expect we're going to get the ball moving consistently when the pass pro is giving Wilson little time to throw...

Less time to throw = less time for receivers to get open

After halfway last year Wilson was great and Bevell's playcalling was getting some credit; it's no coincidence it was in correlation with the O-line's improved play; Sweezy went from sucky to serviceable, and Breno started to cut out the drive thwarting penalties.

It's frustrating because I don't think we can realistically expect the level of play we know our we're capable of until we get everyone back. Until then I'm just going to suck it up until the second half of the season; where hopefully we'll see Okung, Unger and Breno paving lanes for Wilson to connect with Harvin.

Bevell is an interesting case as an OC.

When everything is ideal he is a bigtime stud of a playcaller and OC. Think the Vikes with Favre, Peterson,Shiancoe,McKinnie,Hutch,Rice,Harvin, Berrian - he was balling. Or the Hawks late last year when RW had probowlers on his oline, Lynch was dominating, the weapons were producing - everything was ideal and the Hawks were going 30-50 a game.

Now, throw in a handicap (depleted oline, no Zach Miller) and he struggles, which is entirely worrisome should he ever get a HC job somewhere.

Bevell's a great option if you have a Ferrari or a McLaren; look elsewhere if you need someone to win a streetrace with a Subaru.

My hope, and it isn't entirely unrealistic, is that when December comes the Hawks haven't lost anyone else on offense, have added Okung and Harvin, and Bevell is taking that machine for a spin like he has done in the past.

I think Bevell's problem, metaphorically, is a lack of testosterone.at least it seemed so today.

Meaning, he shied from the beast mode beat down we were administering, and started trying to get cute.
Marshawn was flat punishing the colts, and their D was a hurting unit halfway thru the third quarter, but then thry quit feeding him the rock.
With the way Marshawn was running today, he should have ended up with about 160 yards.
I would not be heartbroken to see Bevell and Cable switched, to the point that Darrel was only asked for input when Cable decided to pass . . as it was today, we gave up on what was working best.

Oh, and I do not blame it all on Bevell though . . . the D really laid an egg in the second half, Can't recall for myself, but did they force a single punt in the second half? Totally unacceptable for guys who want to claim they are the best in the league.

I personally think RW would be a good option to call his own plays. Decades ago it was the norm for QB's to call their own plays. Wilson has just the type of intelligence and demeanor to be able to pull it off. Would love to see him get the chance, even if it were initially for just small chunks of games.

How did that work for Drew Brees last year

5000 yards, 43 TDs, 19 INTs, 30 pts a game?

Unless Brees was calling the defensive plays too?

It's a moot point anyway. Brees didn't call his own plays last year. Their OC, Pete Carmichael did.

I know it's the easy way out when the team loses but I have to state for the record, win or lose, I've never been a huge Bevell fan. Never once in all of the winning streak we've had ever say "Thank God for Bevell!" I realize he has some effect on our success but I cannot sit here and say I've always thought Bevell was an incredible OC when I've never, ever thought that.

I think he has some good attributes and play selections but never once would I put him in the same caliber as any great offensive mind.

Not my words, but my thoughts and feeling. Great players make coaches look great. Love some of our WR's, but this isn't a wr core that scares anyone....until Percy starts. Even with Percy Hawks need another WR that can get more seperation.

On the NFL network game day wrap show last night the crew Marshall Fulk, Dion, and Kurt Warner agreed that we need to open up our play book some and install some new routes too. Dion said the dfeense has seen our plays and knows what's comming.
