I think an important aspect for a coach isn't so much the overall success of their team but how their players react them. Like every cycle; DC, OC, HC get hired from top tier franchises and some of considered the gurus or architects of those teams, get a HC job and sometimes they pan out and a lot of times they don't. Think Adam Gase or Nathanial Hackett, but when they left their teams to become HC ain't a lot of their former players (that I can think of at least) saying much or hearing a bunch of stories of how their team or that unit they coached mad respected them, or other colorful stories. Is that required? No, but it's interesting.

When I hear about Fraley or McCown and how those players from those team love and respect them, like they're legitimate mentors and motivators, those are the ones I get excited about. Yes having playcalling experience is nice and is a real concern, but if I know a coach is gonna get every ounce out of a player, make them bust their ass and unite them as a unit and not just a collection of players following a gameplan, then that's what I want.
Yeah, love those coaches whose players will run through walls for them. (y)

On the surface, it looks like an exciting option. I do hope that because he was a center in the league that he'll push for more of a cohesion on the line. He is working with Ben Johnson, Dan Campbell, and Mark Brunell. Their offense is doing really well and their O-line is very talented.

I think if he's hired then Mac would have felt comfortable that he'll be able to design a tough-minded, run-attacking, and explosive playbook.

Not saying he can't be a great OC, but just keep in mind that the Lions have 4 first round picks on their O line.

I would like a leader of men where the entire offensive unit has an identity again. The play caller needs a smart scheme and a winning in the trenches. He will need to influence all aspects of offense from line, blocking, running and passing. It’s a tall order that we may have to supplement with a pass coordinator if need be. His personality and philosophy needs to bleed through his staff and players.

Being OC or DC does not necessarily mean play caller....Hypothetical...he is OC, Peetz as play caller? (see AD & MM)
I'd like to see Peetz get his shot, but I think Fraley will want to bring in who he knows he can work with.

Reports are Fraley is already putting together a staff which tells me something is imminent, whether that's with us or more likely Detroit to take over for Ben Johnson

True. If he comes to Seattle, I have to believe it can only be because Ben Johnson opted again to stay or we severely outbid Detroit.

I hope it’s him gathering a staff and they’re headed to Seattle (after playoffs obviously)
I'm hoping so. I guess a third option is he will go to be Ben Johnson's OC wherever he goes. But he wouldn't be putting together a staff for no reason

Where are you seeing he's putting a staff together?
I think he’s more or less making an educated guess. I mean, it all fits and seemingly Johnson would need to put together a staff if he is to be a HC. I also think Johnson will be a HC. Some team out there is waiting to see how far the Lions get. That I’m certain.

I heard it a couple places. I forget exactly who. I think Brock Huard was one of them on 710. I think another was in an article by Tom Pellisero. They were reputable sources I would just have to go back and find them

He's not qualified for the OC job. Not only hasn't called plays but he's only has coached the OL his whole career. His resume:

1736569186776

Would be a great OL coach though.

It’s a lateral move. Why would he do that? With this said, I agree that it would be too risky to make him the coordinator having not called plays

I've been saying since the Ground Chuck years that running all the time isn't boring....if you do it at a winning level. Winning doesn't suck.

Heck, I'd have been happy to watch Marshawn pound the rock all game long.
Yep. Pound that rock.
