You gotta' get your first OC job at some point. Why not here? Every OC in the history of the league was a first time OC at some point. At least he has a lot of NFL experience. He's also been working with Ben Johnson. That HAS to be a huge plus.

Just sayin.

Because we just tried that with the last two OC's and they were both failures. One even worked with McVay. Sure it could work, but maybe they should stop gambling and bring in somebody with some actual play calling experience.

Doesn't mean the next hire won't work out. Meh.
This is just more getting pissed ahead of time when something hasn't actually happened (If you're down on him being interviewed)

Let them do their jobs, Mike knows what he's doing, and he knows what he wants. I'm not even sort of worried.

Lions OL is best in the league and their run game has been unstoppable all year. You have to think the guy knows how to get results at what he does.

Yeah he seem's to be a great OL coach. Shame that's not what they would be hiring him for.

Saw that they are looking at matching him with a pass game coordinator...

And Thomas Brown, interim Chi HC has been brought up?

My guess is that he is the minority interview? Dont know that he has done anything impressive enough to warrant the spot.

I can't imagine they'd hire him as anything other than a potential position coach. He's been legitimately terrible at two spots in a row - but there must be a character component there, because people keep turning to him in tough spots. Reich giving him playcalling in Carolina while they spiraled, him getting promoted to OC after Waldron was fired then HC after Eberflus...

He must be a steady hand, at the very least.

I know I saw that Fraley himself has done groundwork on a pass game coordinator. I'd look out for a few names, including Antwan Randel-El, Byron Leftwich, Bobby Engram, and Mark Brunell.

Fraley might be good; I'd certainly like to know more, I'd just caution against going "oh Lions OL, he must be great!". That's an insanely talented line, and there's a lot going on with that team that's taking pressure off him. Is he great AND the talent is great, or is the great talent propping him up? I don't know, although I would hope our guys doing the hiring would have a good handle on that. Being one individual in an excellent organization doesn't mean a guy is an elite football mind, just like being one individual in a terrible organization doesn't mean a guy is incompetent.

Steady hands or not, didn't produce results or impressed as XO genius.

Do any of us really know much about guys from other teams though? I mean when a name comes up, it does seem like people come out of the woodwork and become experts.

Maybe Detroit's OL is "insanely talented" because they've been well coached. ;)

No it doesn't.

I'm not pissed or worried at all and could care less, but it's not good to keep repeating past mistakes.

Yeah, I do generally hate the whole "this position coach has a good unit. They must be good at coaching" stuff.

What I do enjoy about Fraley that, for me, sets him apart is his background.

-11 year NFL center. Hard spot to succeed at and one that demands a bit of a cerebral player.

-Survived a regime change from Patricia to Campbell, largely because his guys love him.

-Unit has been good through injury. Speaks to preparedness.

Also, Lions fans downright revere this man. That's another sign.

He's definitely not a sure thing, but he represents everything we *want* to be. That's the type of guy I'd bet on.
