I have a good feeling, so I guess that cancels your bad feeling out.
People need to take a deep breath and realize that this Browner suspension actually helps Seattle for the rest of the regular season. We were looking at rolling with maybe just 4 corners (while stashing an injured Browner) and against a team like the Saints, Giants, or Cardinals, that's not the best idea. With Browner off the roster, Seattle can run with 5 CBs and have a little bit of breathing room.
It would be nice to have Browner in the playoffs, but he's been basically an average corner this season, and it's very possible that Shead (who looked great in the preseason) could make up for Browner's absence if he's promoted.
Seattle was 4-0 without Browner last season (Thurmond was missing for a lot of those games too). You know why? They had the best offense in the NFL to close out the season. Anyone who's been paying attention has seen Seattle's offense taking off yet again in recent weeks as the OL is coming back and Harvin is making his debut.
Also, I don't see this as a distraction. I see it as adversity. A little adversity is a good thing for a 10-1 team that might be beginning to slip into complacency.
The voice of reason wins out again as kearly points out the facts.
Appreciate your post seahawksny, but I think you're way off. This team is built for the long run and has depth upon depth. Every time we have had DB problems in the past, it has been a blessing in disguise.
Up until this week the big question about our defensive backfield was "of Browner and Thurmond, who are we going to re-sign, and can we afford them?" I think the answer is "neither of them unless Thurmond comes dirt cheap." Pete and John have a knack for finding big, athletic corners who fit their preferred profile and coach them up to looking like ProBowlers.
I've said it a million times before, and I'll say it again, one of the main reasons our cornerbacks have looked so good is the type of defense we play, and the coaching they get. I honestly think that the cornerback position on Pete Carroll's team is for the most part plug and play. Whoever replaces Browner and Thurmond may not have the same level of success, but they will succeed, have no doubt of that.
For an example of this, look at Byron Maxwell's play in the last game, on the TD his hand missed blocking that pass by a hair. "Maxtor" was on his receiver like glue and will do well against the Saints.
Jeremy Lane is a speed demon and has a lot of practice tackling while playing special teams. If you watch the kick off coverage, he is almost always the first one down and there and usually by quite a margin.
Like kearly said, we've played without Browner and Thurmond before, and we've done well during that time. Since then, our DBs have gained a lot more experience. I predict that one of them gets an INT.
